ah 5g also congested then no point upgrading. tbf i use simba 5g also cannot load during peak train hours
Base on my observation 5G works resonably 3 quarters of the time.

Previously when i was on 4G it works fine as well, but after a few months it was not working 100% of the time. I dont believe in paying for something when you cannot use it at all.

So i bite the bullet and upgrade 5G thou it cost almost double.

I use wifi at home and office. So travelling in mrt is one of the times i use data and i expect it to be working la. So dont mind paying more.

Able to share your recent 4G experience during peak mrt still usable?

Yes, definitely frustrating there's no network while commuting to work. But such is the situation when travelling at peak hours in crowded areas.

My experience is that some days will be better than others. So it's really depends.

But if it really don't work out, you can try getting a secondary line but there's also a good chance that it will be just as shietty..
Don't insist on always data connection, it is actually not a bad thing, take a break. Do some eBook reading, listening to free mp3 songs instead of paid spotify, watched download video instead of streaming video especially meaningless mindless tiktoking, use cash or physical card for payments. Treat mobile connection as simple communication tool, then one really will not quite bother with congestion, 4G or 5G speed, etc. Most importantly, savings as the cheapest price plan will suffice. One can still use a smartphone heavily without heavy or seamless data requirement. 😀

Are you on 5G as well?

Yes agree some days peak Mrt 5G works fine. There are still certain areas blindspots but that is normal i guess and no complaints.
Yes, I'm also on eight 5G and also invested in the $88x2

I also have a MyRepublic 5G (which supposedly have priority per their QCI) but there are moments where MyRepublic 5G went airplane mode but the eight 5G is still fighting strong.

So yeah probably don't read or think too much about how which 'priority' network will be better etc.

Hahaha, well usually I just play games or do some light browsing. If it goes to airplane mode, just put down the phone and look up and around.

Sometimes, there's a pretty girl round the corner so it's not a bad thing to stop drowning on the screen hahaha :ROFLMAO:

You may want to read the QCI thread. Especially for StarHub network (MR 5G is using StarHub network), the QCI value may mean nothing much.

StarHub

MyRepublic 5G Essential Plan $15.95/month (only available in-app):
QCI 140 APN: shwap
AMBR: 4000/400 (5G)

MyRepublic 5G Flexi Plan $13.95/month (also only available in-app):
QCI 140 APN: shwap
AMBR: 4000/400 (5G)

MyRepublic 5G Prime Plan $12.95/month:
QCI 140 APN: shwap
AMBR: 4000/400 (5G)

MyRepublic 5G R Plan $10.00/month (first 3 months):
QCI 140 (5G)/150 (4G) APN: shwap
AMBR: 4000/400 (5G)
1500/150 (4G)

StarHub 5G Unlimited+ Core $38.00/month:
QCI 140 (5G)/140 (4G) APN: shwap
AMBR: 4000/400 (5G)
1500/150 (4G)

eight 4G $8.00/month:
QCI 170 APN: shwap

giga 5G 300+300GB $18.33/month:
QCI 170 APN: giga

SingTel

CMLink 4G 30GB with 10GB China Roaming $10.90/month:
QCI 9 APN: e-ideas
AMBR: 1000/100 (4G)

GOMO 5G+ Asia Infinity $30.56/month (still 5G NSA only as of 28/9/2025):
QCI 9 APN: hicard
AMBR: 1000/150 (5G)

ZYM Mobile Roam SMART 5G $15.10/month:
QCI 9 APN: e-ideas
AMBR: 2000/100 (5G)

M1

M1 Maxx $10 5G $10/month:
QCI 9 APN: sunsurf
AMBR: 4200/4200 (5G)

M1 Bespoke SIM-only 1024GB $14.95/month (first 3 months):
QCI 9 APN: sunsurf
AMBR: 1500/150 (5G)

SIMBA

SIMBA SuperRoam 12 $12.00/month:
QCI 9 APN: tpg
AMBR: 204/204 (5G)

Tested on realme GT Neo5 SE (realmeUI 6.0, Android 15)

Last Updated: 18/1/2026

StarHub uses non-standard QCI values on their network, so QCI 140 is actually one of the lowest I've seen on StarHub. However, since the priority of different QCI tiers can be customised by the carrier, I don't think anyone other than StarHub themselves knows which order their custom QCI values (140, 150, 170) are in terms of priority. From what I've seen the QCI values also change depending on if you're connected to 4G or 5G, as the QCI for MyRepublic SIMs on 4G appears to be 150, while it is 140 on 5G.

Updated with 3 new plans, the MyRepublic R 5G plan available from their new RewardLand app, StarHub's cheapest new 5G Unlimited+ plan and M1's 1024GB SIM-only plan. Some thoughts from my own testing of each plan are that despite M1s SIM-only plan looking worse on paper than the Maxx plan, user experience was much more consistent and less susceptible to poor performance during crowded periods, suggesting less aggressive QoS despite the same QCI value. Same goes with the MyRepublic R plan, despite appearing to have the same QCI value as the StarHub native plan, I seem to experience much more throttling on the MyRepublic plan, not just compared to the native plan, but even compared to the previous plans I had on MyRepublic. Not a fan of StarHub's lack of transparency regarding any fair use policy of their Unlimited plans, their website used to say 102400GB when adding the plans to cart, but that has since been removed, and no FAQ or T&C provides a clear cut answer regarding if any limit applies, and what throttled speeds will be once that limit is hit.

You almost single-handedly destroyed the meaning/point of this QCI thread with your statement. :D

oh yeah eight sometimes need to do the turn on/off airplane mode when it lags and stuck at 4g during peak.

If that doesnt help usually means it is no connection all the way in the tunnels.

Airplane mode king is probably M1 network like M1 Maxx plan.

But yes airplane mode may help in some cases for SingTel/StarHub/M1 networks. Not so much help for SIMBA.

In any case, just need to lower the expectations in the tunnels, especially during peak hours and for MVNOs and SIMBA. Even the SingTel/StarHub/M1 MNO plans may suffer.

it was due to the crowds at the mall, same happened to mid-valley soutkey.
obviously it is over conjested at the mall that it causes the data is not moving even with full coverage.

the 4G indoor in bolehland has never been good after many days, so with crowds it will make it worst.

any if eight has more users, it will just make things worst.

if more unhappy eight users move out of eight, it will make things better.

i thought overseas reception is base on their network partner?

If more eight users move out will aid in SG congestion, not sure overseas got effect a not.

eigth used to have termination charges but no more as per the latest Critical Information Summary (CIS).

Old CIS
A fee of $20 is chargeable if port out happens within 30 days of SIM activation
https://www.eight.com.sg/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/eight_CIS_8-Mobile-Plan.pdf

Latest CIS: No more termination charges
https://www.eight.com.sg/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/eight_CIS_8-Mobile-Plan_240725_v2-2-3.pdf

Same for other eight plans.

Just want to check with those porting out from eight within the first month.

Can you port out within 30 days now that there is no termination charge? Say, terminate after 10 days.

Take note the CIS is saying you can only terminate post 30 days. They may have already charged you on your credit card at that time (if you linked a credit card). If you do not have a linked credit card, maybe not an issue.

Minimum Term
• The Service entitlements are supplied on a rolling 30-day basis, automatically renewed subject to
successful payment received.
• Plan renewal for the next cycle shall happen at the end of Day 30 of your current cycle. You shall
be charged for this renewal before the end of the plan cycle. charge shall be processed in the
following priority: wallet and subsequently to the linked credit card (if you have linked a credit
card).
• Customers are permitted to terminate the Service at any time, post 30 days of sign up and
activation. Credit balances in the wallet are not refundable or exchangeable for cash. All
payments made are non-refundable or exchangeable for cash.

I didn't look into details, but I'd say it'd be safe if it's at least a week (5 days, maybe) before the actual billing.

First thing to do is to disable auto-recharge, and remove the credit card info.

They've no reason to charge you before the actual date, and if they try to do it after you've put in the port-out request, there's no more credit card for them to do it.

Bottom-line, we've already paid for the said first 30 days, when we got the Eight line.

That is what I believe as well.

Take note that some other service providers have limitations about porting-out.

1. SIMBA
https://support.simba.sg/hc/en-us/sections/4416126079769-Porting
https://support.simba.sg/hc/en-us/articles/5020380241561-Is-there-a-fee-when-I-port-out-from-SIMBA

An activation fee of $30 is chargeable for port-out within 30 days of plan activation.
Porting out of lucky number? Please refer to the terms and conditions here.

2. Zym
https://zym.sg/faq/port-in/
You can terminate your plan and port out your number after 2 months, as per our Terms and Conditions (Minimal subscription for a non-contract plan is 2-month).

3. Circles.Life (no need to full months, the first month can be a partial month).
https://circlesasiasupport.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003837793-What-does-No-contract-mean
Unlike traditional telcos, we don't lock you in to two-year mobile plans. The minimum period you have to stay with us is only two months since our first bill immediately charge you for the first and second month, which gives you the freedom to try Circles.Life out. You should be able to schedule for termination as long as you pay your first bill with us.

If our services aren't meeting your mobile needs, you can cancel your plan after the minimum period.
