That is what I believe as well.

Take note that some other service providers have limitations about porting-out.

1. SIMBA
https://support.simba.sg/hc/en-us/sections/4416126079769-Porting
https://support.simba.sg/hc/en-us/articles/5020380241561-Is-there-a-fee-when-I-port-out-from-SIMBA

An activation fee of $30 is chargeable for port-out within 30 days of plan activation.
Porting out of lucky number? Please refer to the terms and conditions here.

2. Zym
https://zym.sg/faq/port-in/
You can terminate your plan and port out your number after 2 months, as per our Terms and Conditions (Minimal subscription for a non-contract plan is 2-month).

3. Circles.Life (no need to full months, the first month can be a partial month).
https://circlesasiasupport.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003837793-What-does-No-contract-mean
Unlike traditional telcos, we don't lock you in to two-year mobile plans. The minimum period you have to stay with us is only two months since our first bill immediately charge you for the first and second month, which gives you the freedom to try Circles.Life out. You should be able to schedule for termination as long as you pay your first bill with us.

If our services aren't meeting your mobile needs, you can cancel your plan after the minimum period.
Simba don't say, even when already went to their counter to pay up for the lucky number release, they'll still send an email asking to go pay for the release. Not auto-reply, but human with name and brainless cut-paste.

Other 2... never used before.

i thought overseas reception is base on their network partner?

If more eight users move out will aid in SG congestion, not sure overseas got effect a not.
Although that overseas telcos are sharing mobile network to their partners but surely the telcos must also control the bandwidth that they give to their partners users as well.

Was in ksl (yesterday) & sutra mall (today) and 8 4g ($8 plan) roaming was a disaster.
Full bar but no or damm slow data spd (<1mbps when using fast.com, ookla spdtest couldn't even load), switching airplane mode on/off doesn't help.
Switch btw MY telco helps initially but after a short while will b back to snail spd

My other hp on lion king works (roam) swee swee, wonder what happened to 8 4g, last yr roaming was working swee swee

Throttling on Eight SIM cards in Johor Bahru has been a persistent issue, becoming more severe compared to the past.

While roaming abroad remains seamless, the problem appears to stem from the Malaysian provider, possibly treating Eight as unable to secure adequate bandwidth. (Although some users here attribute the issue to network congestion, that should not be considered the primary cause)

Whether this extends beyond Eight to affect all StarHub users can only be clarified through feedback from other StarHub customers.

Other countries don’t face this problem with iPhones, so it seems to be a roaming issue specific to Johor.
I believe the issue is more likely due to throttling than congestion, while others shared it’s congestion rather than throttling.
Similarly, some have reported that other data roaming work fine, but not with Eight.

For areas further north, like Kuala Lumpur, we’ll need to see if anyone has shared similar feedback.
The captcha issue can be disregarded since others have explained it’s related to how their IP addresses are assigned.

Curious how eight roaming calls work?

Per their FAQ,

Q. Does roaming covers calls and SMS?

A. Absolutely! Our plans include 288 minutes of roaming calls—whether you’re calling back to Singapore or making local calls in the country you’re visiting.

  • To ensure smooth calling, check the “Network Operator (VoLTE Calls)” column in our roaming guide.
  • For example: In Malaysia, connect to MAXIS/UMOBILE/CELCOM to enjoy VoLTE calls and stay in touch with home.
  • For SMS, there will be no issues to receive OTP, but our plans do not include outgoing international SMS at the moment.
However, say I'm going to USA, I see their partners in the roaming list (https://www.eight.com.sg/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/eight-Roaming-List_20260102-1.pdf) for Data Roaming but the VoLTE Calls is blank. Does that mean I can't make VoLTE calls, so won't be able to make roaming calls while in USA?

This is nothing new - JB roaming issues has plagued several service providers over the years. As usual, there are good days and bad days.

But I'm supportive of unhappy eight users to move on so as to ease the network burden. :D :D
it's the only telco that offers roaming in JB for under $10, perpetually.

Singtel's $10-12, Simba min $10, M1 $7.90 for 12 cycles nia.

Getting constant Google CAPTCHA (reCAPTCHA) prompts on an iPhone ("kena pwn") is usually caused by network privacy features that make your traffic look like a bot to Google, rather than an actual hack.

Top Reasons & Fixes
Turn Off iCloud Private Relay (Most Common)
Why: Private Relay masks your IP address to protect privacy. Google often flags these shared IP addresses as "unusual traffic".

Fix: Go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Private Relay and turn it off.
Turn Off "Hide IP Address" in Safari
Why: Similar to Private Relay, this masks your identity, causing Google to request verification.

Fix: Go to Settings > Safari > Hide IP Address and set it to Off.
Disable VPN/Proxy Services
Why: VPNs, especially free or popular ones, use shared IP addresses that are often blacklisted or flagged by Google for high-volume, suspicious traffic.

Fix: Disconnect your VPN.
Turn on Automatic Verification (iOS 16+)
Why: This allows your iPhone to verify to websites that you are a real person without needing a CAPTCHA.

Fix: Go to Settings > [Your Name] > Sign-In & Security > Automatic Verification and turn it on.
Other Potential Solutions
Clear Safari Data: Go to Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data.

Restart Network Settings:
Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

Switch Browsers/Search Engines:
Use the Google App instead of Safari, or try DuckDuckGo.
