Fast, go to their service centre to ask. They can easily take more than 3 days to reply emails, if they do at all.

Otherwise just port out to see if they'd accept or reject.
If rejected I will have one count of unwanted temp number

Thanks for the reply

Does eight even have early termination charges now?

The latest CIS does not show that. You should be able to port out immediately.

https://www.eight.com.sg/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/eight_cis_mobile_8-Double-Eight-Plan.pdf
Termination Fees: No termination fees
It does say: Customers are permitted to terminate the Service at any time, post 30 days of sign up and activation. Credit balances in the wallet are not refundable or exchangeable for cash. All payments made are non-refundable or exchangeable for cash.

So min charge is 30 days before termination?

That is normal. Minimal charge is 30days or one month depending on the MVNOs.

Some of them may ask for two months like Zym (but first month is pro-rated). Circle.Life is also two months with partial fee pro-rated for the first month.

SIMBA is one of the worst in this aspect as it charges early port-out fee. On the other hand, it is okay to terminate without penalities based on my own experience.

https://www.simba.sg/static/media/CIS_SIMBA_SuperRoam_10_Apr2026.ed5665d7.pdf
Service Port-out • An activation fee of $30 is chargeable for port-out within 30 days of plan activation. This Service will be terminated upon successful port-out to other telco.

I bought Eight SIM card for the purpose of traveling. I no longer need the line. Can I just let it lapse?

According to the FAQ, ".... When your plan expires, it will go into a grace period of 60 days. During which, you can receive SMS and notification to recharge. After 60 days, you will continue to receive SMS, however all unused wallet credit will be forfeited."

So does this actually mean it will be terminated at some point by Eight or I would still need to write in to terminate?

Both.

You can let it lapse or email them or walk in to service center

I email them to terminate and they got back in 1-2 days, but that was some time back

https://www.eight.com.sg/help/account-faq/
There are a few ways for termination:

Head over to our service centre with your NRIC that was used for the registration of the number for termination, or you can write in to helpme@eight.com.sg with the below details as part of user verification. Do note that this action will be irreversible.

  • Name as per NRIC:
  • Registered email address
  • Your eight number:
  • Your date of birth:
  • Photo of the back of your SIM card/Screenshot of your “myAccount” login

Probably location dependant.

Supposedly eight 5G uses the same infrastructure as StarHub 5G (shared with M1).

I live and work in the west, my StarHub Prepaid S 5G and M1 Maxx 5G are not bad. Of course there will be small areas where 5G signal will be lost.
Today drop to 4g. Not the place i never visit before, not the place i visit before have 4g before but today is. Don't think i am the only one. Recently like 5g not that stable.

Is Eight actually any good? I’m thinking of porting over from Simba. Simba’s coverage is non-existent in underground MRT stations, and their data roaming completely failed me in Indo and Thai. Does Eight handle those areas better?

I can only answer for the roaming part. Eight has good roaming although their partners are not top tier (eg. Telkomsel & AIS). If you travel to major tier 1 cities then should be no problem. For absolutely best roaming partners ST MVNOs are better (but less partners unless you include the free 365 days worldwide roaming). Btw Giga has Telkomsel as a roam partner which is strange as Giga & Eight are with Starhub. I would rate Giga slightly higher than Eight due to partner composition but Giga is way more expensive. My 2 main phones are Zym & Eight. Considering getting Hi 5G postpaid as a spare to cover all the other countries that Zym don't have. Used Simba for 5 months and even though they have many partners roaming connections are spotty & somehow always get disconnected. My brother also gave up using Simba due to same reason.

Did u ask the same in the SIMBA thread? never been to Batam for a long time. So dunno. But all the other countries I’ve been to SIMBA no problem. I can even call local numbers or call Singapore at no charges.

He might need to do manual switching to the Indonesian network

Problem for me with Simba was the roaming connectivity is not stable and will drop off periodically (on highway, at offices in the CBD areas, etc), and takes a min or 2 to reconnect. It's also the slowest to connect once I touch down a new country. I don't have any of these issues with Eight, Giga & ST MVNOs 99.99% of the time and I don't even need to think of manually selecting the operators! I tested on multiple phones and coincidentally my brother also has same complaints! it's obviously a Simba issue so we both switched out. Believe me, Eight is so much better unless you need very specific local requirement to use Simba.

stay on eight. it is hassle free..

1) totally cheap price
2) generous data/calls and reasonable SMS quota
3) never incur additional cost (u will never need to pay any extra, not even 1 cent extra NO MATTER how u use it) - totally suitable for kids as well.
4) only MNVOs that is postpaid but work like prepaid in bolehland. u can even stop the top up and stay inactive for 60 days before ur no is gone.
5) decent network on starhub (at least can rank no 2)
6) can make local calls in a lot of roaming countries via VoLTE free
7) good roaming coverage, no matter where u go, ur line will have at least 2GB for roaming data while APAC u get 12GB which is considered very good.
8) local data can be used in bolehland, tom yum land, pearl in the east, indo mee land. technically u can totally use this line as replacement line there which u do not need to maintain extra sim plan there.
9) app is easy to use and user friendly, can monitor usage (which technically no need to) easily.

wanted to try eight telco $8 plan since they say got 2 months free for port-in.

Reach checkout page, it ask me for $8 immediately.

How does the "free" part work? Is it pay first then they credit back, or must I enter some secret promo code? Don't want to pay then find out the 2 months free fly away.

Hmm, noticed it says 3GB Intl Roaming... anyone on the $8 plan already seeing 3GB in their eight dashboard?

Anyway, yes, you pay for the first month and it stacks in two extra free months into your subscription.

What is this promotion about?

  • if you purchased the $14.80 Lucky Eight plan, the 2 free months will be stacked on Month 2 and 3
  • if you purchased the 1-Year Lucky Eight Eight plan, the 2 free months will be stacked on Month 13 and 14.
