Think camera features will slowly improve with incremental updates. After all it's just software!
:)

Yah I was quite smitten with this phone also but certain things hold me back like the camera features . I saw one review and it didn't even have panorama mode for its camera ? That's quite shocking for a 2017 phone model

The Pixel 2 might tempt me away from the Essential phone if the leaked price structure is right. 749USD for 128GB, onl 50USD more than the Essential.

But given that I'm forcing myself to wait till Black Friday to get either one... I can afford to see how much Essential can improve on the phone via software updates.

My option is between Pixel XL 2 128GB or essential phone now.. I prefer pixel but the price is just too crazy... let's see if Essential can really improve on the camera.

Priced too high for too little. Imho focused too much on the materials instead of the things that really matters to the geeks.

Have you considered the Xiaomi Mix 2?
Oops just read that you're not keen on the miui phones. I'm on the Mi Max, using the rom from miui eu, which removes all the bloatwares. I use Evie launcher too.

Trying to decide on which nice phablet to upgrade to. So many choices I cant decide :s22:

Yup, not really into Miui. It was pretty fun to flash Miui when it first came out many years ago, before Xiao mi was even a company. That time android wasn't so good and having something new like Miui was pretty fun. But once they created xiao mi as a company, it slowly became just another china company and iphone copier... so totally lost interest in it after these years.

Anyway I've decide not to buy any phone and just stick to my Nexus 6P for the meantime. Pixel 2 XL too ex and I'm still not comfortable getting the essential phone.

When they created Miui, xiaomi is already a company, with our local investment firm (you should know which one) already inside. :s13:

I am kinda dissed that all of them have no headphone jack (Pixel 2 XL or Mi Mix 2 or essential ph1)!!
I have all my IEMs that I use to enjoy my audiobooks. Now I have to use some connector cable. I will probably lose mine within a few weeks XD

If you don't care for stock Android or fast updates to latest android, then I think lg v30 is the phone for you. It has a headphone jack with dac, confirm good for u. I'm also considering it but kinda worried about the developer scene for it.
