US$699 is a fair price lah. It's not a super value for money price, but it's also not an outrageous price. If yuo're budget conscious, or you want more value for your money, there are other alternatives out there.

Pro:
Huge display in small body (5.6 inch screen in a body more for 5.2 phones like my xiaomi Mi5)

Fast charging: Never specify but since they are using Type C, it's highly likely charging at 3A. From my experience with Nexus 5X and Xiaomi Mi5, this is seriously fast, don't really need Qualcomm 3 or 4 quick charge.

Titanium and Ceramic constuction

Snapdragon 835

Stock Android

Possibility for more modules addons

Con:
Small battery for 5.6" screen

No 3.5mm headphones out

No expandable storage

No dual SIMs (I think?)

Unknown at this point:
How good the camera is, and how long the battery life is.

It's an interesting product that I will keep my eye on. Will definitely wait for reviews to be out. If the battery life and camera quality are roughly equal to my Xiaomi Mi5, I will get it. But if battery life sucks, then will skip it.

I won't say "DON'T BUY" or "MTLBBB" until some hard figures are out ;)

that's $965 SGD exclude shipping + no warranty. what's so interesting about it? u are just paying for the design and the construction.

How long battery life. u should know it. 5.7" 3040mah. 2k display. SD835? With gaming, don't expect more than 3hrs SOT.

To me I don't really care about battery life anymore. I am a hardcore user. Been using apple phones and Samsung phones. All phone also try before. Once hit one year mark the battery is chui.

And i an on nexus 6p now... I charge my phone all the time. This phone once review is out I will consider. Main reason for me over op5 is the display screen... If the phone review is bad I will just go op5.

Once you go stock android, you will never go back Samsung anymore

I don't game so don't need too large a battery.

Yup you're right, I'm mainly getting it for the design and construction. Oh and stock android too. Been using Lineage 14 on my Xiaomi Mi5 since day 1 but has given me a few headaches with the update process.

Again yes, I know that there are plenty of phones out there that gives better value for money but as theverge put it, "The Essential Phone is an intriguing indulgence" and I feel that I should treat myself for once.

If u r more on design of the phone, u can consider xiaomi mix. And some China brands like Maze alpha, doogee mix, umdigi Crystal and bluboo s1 that cost only a fraction.

Actually SD835 is pretty power efficient. It's all down to how Essential will optimise their phones. HTC U11 with 5.5" QHD screen, SD835 and 3,000mAh can hit over 5hr SOT with gaming (dynasty warriors) for me. The XZ Premium has really good battery life too with 5.5" 4K screen, SD835, and 3230mAh battery. Not saying battery life will be good on Essential phone, but just that it has the potential to be decent. It's too early to judge just based on specs. :D

No stock android and probably limited custom roms/difficulties to flash due to them being less known units.

Plus dunno if the hardware will allow for smooth day to day operation.

Essential phone still my first choice right now pending reviews. Second choice Nuans Reloaded lol.

Need to wait for review first, esp the camera. Else I'll be getting the Taimen.

If sharp release earlier than essential, Rip liao essential

Besides aiming for different tiers of the markets, they might be sold only in selective markets like Sharp only for Japan. Just saw news that Essentials will be available in a bunch of European countries and Japan too. Maybe we can now get from UK at a cheaper price (cos no VAT).

Sharp new phone is like a clone of essential phone

Hard to say who is a clone of who because Essential is using Sharp's display hahahah. But I'm not complaining, more choices the better, plus they may differ by the internals.

Just read sharp news... The phone may not like essential. The previous image might be a hoax
