where is taknet? i was thinking to get it from ebay instead, but no experience from ebay holding me from ordering. and i saw few types, not sure which one lol.

Taknet level 5 around the back alley. Remember to buy the correct one, there is such thing as a Reverse cable whereby 4 SATA connectors go to your motherboard and 1 mini SAS connector goes to the backplane of an external storage. This cable is totally opposite to the one you're looking for but looks very similar.

Is there a way to view a VM's console over the host's screen?

Actually not just view but use as well, what I am trying to achieve is to use a VM at the host machine, keyboard video mouse.

to manage VMs, its always about the vsphere client

you can use vmware web interface as well.

Any SRM experts here? Need some advice :D

SRM advice is not cheap . =:p

SRM5 sells in packs of VMs hor ... . . :D
if you want to use DR / Replication, i suggest to use Veeam for cost reduction.

Platespin is also another good recommendation. The other thing is are you running central storage? Leverage on your storage as well.

What kind of SRM design are you looking at?

Dear experts, I wish to build a simple ESX compatible rig to try out. Would prefer a small itx fig if possible! Any shops in sls that I can buy all the parts from?

Is it that I can just buy any mobo, processor, hdd, ram? Only the NIC portion I have to get compatible ones?

usually need to factor in whether mobo bios support virtualization first.
otherwise, the rest of the CPU today supports it.

Forgot to update : vSphere 5 supports Realtek NIC Cards
Realtek 8168
Realtek 8169
Realtek 8111E

Go ! Go ! Go!

The rest is similar to building a new rig + the right NIC card.:s12:

Am I right that only ESX 4.0 is free? I tried ESXi 4.1 in my vmplayer and it showed 60 days limitation :s22:

It's free but you still need to enter the license key that was sent to you when you signed up for the download.

ESXi is free - marketing term is vSphere hypervisor.
ESX 4.0 is not.

as what the korkor has replied you is correct, you need to sign up for the free license ~

Please use the license what was send to you on signup for free ESXi 5.0

ESXi 4 and 5 has different license. You cannot reuse ESXi 4 license with ESXi 5
