Based on physics should be ok. Electromagnetic charge can go through leather and glass, but not metal.

I'm new to the forum, did not read the previous discussions. Does Apple Care cover phone dropping and screen cracking? If so, maybe it's worth it so that I don't need to use an ugly cover.

Very true. No compelling reason to upgrade from 6S to 8, but X is too expensive. So end up waiting another year or two for X price to drop.

For those getting the new iPhone 8 series, just be reminded that the overall battery capacity is smaller then current iPhone 7 series despite being slightly thicker and heavier.
