Im just worried about how well faceid works in the dark. I dont have an evil twin so im not concerned about someone else faking my face.

Some have said the battery life will suck cos the phone is constantly scanning. I doubt apple is dumb enough to design it such that the face scanner is constantly on. I am guessing only when u wake the phone up e.g. pressing the side button, then the face scanner will start scanning.

USB PD requires the right cables that have e-marker chips in them in order to negotiate the fast charge. Also do note that the only USB Type C to Lightning cables that are certified MFi are by Apple (I suspect they are e-marker enabled).

Wait for hands on or test the demo unit at store. I think the FaceID camera only work when the screen is on at the lock screen or when on (features that need it like Apple Pay, or apps that previously have TouchID lock replaced by FaceID example Bank app, LINE, KakaoTalk, OneDrive, Dropbox etc).

Constant tracking for face will drain battery like crazy for sure which I think Apple is not so dumb.

It’s not always about the first, is about who did it right and push the whole industry forward, a very good example is TouchID and Wireless charging, it will become a norm as one of the standard features and more places will support ahem...Starbucks in USA, wireless charging on table in cafe in Singapore? Nah (although not the case for Singapore as we are for being a laggard nation)

Just like it’s powerful A11 chip which is also ahead of Qualcomm, Mediatek, and Samsung Exynos and perhaps Huawei Kirin 970(?)

Condering all the technology inside the phone that is way ahead of any competition on the Android camp, the price of the X it’s expensive but worth it. It’s like a Tesla Model S P100D with all option package included.

Many ranting videos on YouTube why iPhone X is useless and over expensive.

For me, what I think are:

1) Samsung and others failed on the face scanner

2) Samsung's Iris scanning is not up to mark according to Note 7 launch in 2016, not sure about now. Tried it and doesn't work well

3) Ranting about needing to face the phone in order to unlock using Face ID. I think when you unlock the damn phone but not use it or look at it is rare. Why would you unlock it without looking at it? Those people who complained that they want to read their messages quietly (OMG, they need to look at the screen don't they?)

4) I don't remember me trying to pay (tap) on a contactless without actually looking at the payment terminal. There you go, all the ranting busted on the forums and YouTube of people trying to put Apple down.


But I would not buy the first generation Face ID or iPhone X, simply too expensive and I am still using a 6s Plus which serves me well.

In case anyone says I am Apple fanboy, I just bought a Xiaomi mi6 to play and I see the value of Android phones.

Well. Apple only have a phone event once a year. Of course it is is hyped. Of course you tubers all wanna profit from it through view counts. Negativity is easier to spread.

Jus look at unbox therapy face Id failed YouTube video. See the view count. Imagine how much that fellow earns from the windfall.

Jus wait for reviews. If it is really bad, the sales will speak for itself. Apple also uses sales number to determine what isn’t right or wrong.

You missed Point 3 totally. With a fingerprint scanner, you can unlock the phone as you bring the phone up to eye level. This way, by the time your phone is at your eye level, it's ready to be used instantly.

Erm, face ID don’t need to be at face level to work. Holding it and as you bring the phone up towards you, it’ll be unlocked... provided you’re looking in the direction of the phone with eyes open...

You have it on hand already? I know that's what Apple claims, but does it really work that way? And reliably so?

Notice how I said "eye level" as opposed to "face level"?

In any case, by the mere fact that there's a need to look at the sensor, even if it doesn't require you to look at it straight, it is already more cumbersome, as opposed to unlocking via a fingerprint sensor.

I don’t know about you but I can’t pick up my 7+ with one hand and at the same time place my thumb to unlock it in one swift motion. I’ll probably drop my phone.
So face ID, although debatable whether faster, will at least be safer for me.

I do not know how many of you do this...but for me I can simply unlock the phone while it lying flat on the desk...using TouchID and take a glance on the screen.

With iPhone X, I doubt it can be unlocked the same way without lifting up the phone.

if Face ID/notch doesn't fit your use case or life style, chances are you don't need a iPhone X.

my advice: don't buy and complain about it. stocks are limited. let those want one have a chance to buy it.

it's not constantly scanning.. the screen need to be awake, you should look at the phone and swipe up..

in samsung, the screen needs to be awake and you just need to look, no swipe required..

The additional swipe is to get into the home screen... without the swipe, FaceID will already unlock your phone but it doesn't go into home screen straightaway because you might be looking at your notifications instead.

you mean it just unlocks and stays at the lock screen ? that would be just like waking the screen, right ? you can already see the notifications when the screen is awake..
