Coz ntd is up, sgd is down?

I mean the rates diff too much if I pay straight in sgd currency by credit card.
Anyway chose twd on the slip hope the bank will have their own exchange rates.
Check bank acc, they hold 952$ at the moment

As I lazy to walk around, megabank n Taiwan bank is different side of terminal,as I ask the counter information, I decide to change at bank of Taiwan at 21.77..n straight walk to buy sim card.
Before I change I check the megabank website is show 21.78...

Check in hotel,pay by credit card, on the slip there 2 rates, sin n twd.asking me which currency to paid.tick the twd.
Curious is when I make the booking the rates is sgd876 (19638twd), but paying at the hotel here is 952(19638)..

Cash is king lol. Cuz in additional to bank lousy exchange rate, the cc visa/master/amex also charges some fee.

Overseas, always use their currencies rate.
Never select sg dollar.

Ya, and usually it's at quite a bad rate too. Not sure in TW but in HK, if choose to use CC pay in SGD the rate is a lot worse.

This small issue.
Singaporeans fav past time now is get out of ****ry liao.

I was almost stuck with worthless Indian rupees after they declare 500, 1000, no oonger valid. Old US$100 are also not accepted at many money changers now...

The instant SGD rate is a DCC rate offered by bank, which is always higher than actual exchange rate for purchasing on local currency. Banks earn more from that, because they offer you a "final" figure on the spot, though you may still get an additional 1% DCC charge.

Why? Shopping in tw, sales people will ask you to pay cc in sgd or twd, I thought choose sgd so no exchange rate incur which is better choice.

Because retailers earn a bit more if you pay by SGD instead of Taiwan dollars, due to the lower processing fees charged to retailers if you pay by SGD.

Bank and retailer both earn a bit from that.

Next time, always opt for local currency no matter what.

I happen to see this too when daily rate for instant booking is lower than paying at hotel BUT the checkout page. payment at hotel is cheaper.
Den I realize there stated the amount in NTD to pay at hotel and the rate they use to give u as estimation is same at XE.com $22.xx when money changer in Sg offering 21.1x and Tw bank 21.7x.
