I took PMTI course and successfully obtained my PMP on 1st try.
They are one of the more expensive ones, but their method and material really works (at least for me).
In overall, I spent about 2 weeks. about 1 week part time studying (abt 3 hrs daily after work), 4 days intensive course, and 2 days intensive self study. Took the exam 1 week after finished the course.

PMP prep course

I recently took my PMP prep course from iKompass and successfully completed my certification within three weeks from the date of completion of the course. The training prog offered by ikompass (classroom training and e-learning ) was very effective and the trainers were excellent in explaining the concepts and process which made it easier to understand PMI concepts rather than memorizing! The course structure and e-learning at Ikompass helped me achieve the certification in less than 3 weeks after the course. Also the trainers take a great deal of interest in ensuring that you stay in the 'PMI zone' and they were a constant source of encouragement which helped build my confidence.

My educational provider for PMP was Comat.

After the completion of the course in early September 2010, I prepared for 1 month and then took the exam in mid October 2010. Passed on the 1st try. The exam location though was a different story LOL. Too ulu for my liking.

And then after passing the exam, CITREP took about 3.5 months to refund me the grant. LOL.

I think courses like PMP, PMI-RM need to attend physical training classes due to their prerequisites of requiring classroom hours.

I think Singapore now has two exam centers. One in Jurong east and the new one Bras Basah. Sometimes dates are available even for the next day as well.

hahah.... plenty of industry veterans here in this forum.

always pays to check out your facts before posting.

You may not always get corrected all the time, but you will sure be scrutinized ;)

Many start off by being first involved in projects, as a engineer, project admin etc. You very seldom get to be a full fledged project manager without any relevant experience.

Start having a feel of what is involved in projects and a better understanding of what is needed before embarking on your first small mini project before moving up to bigger things

Always learn to walk before trying to run

Sorry i think i din make it clear in my previous question. I am looking foward to embark a career involve project management. I did look for job like assistant or junior position that assits the incumbent to handle projects but no luck so far.

Though i have the PMP cert but it seems not to give me an edge. I dun even get any interview for job like System Analyst which having job scope that participate in handling projects.

Just wonder have i went into the wrong direction for searching job?

There are certifications which will directly support specific jobs and others which will complement

CCNA, CCNPs etc will directly support a networking related job while certifications like ITIL and PMP are considered complementary unless you are in a ITSM or Project management related role.

A SA is going to be involved in projects, but that is not the core expectation of the role. Knowing how to manage your projects is useful only if you can convince people you are capable to doing the project in the first place.

We face new projects on a daily basis... We dont really follow PMP method because our VP dont follow it... but it's encourage..but what a waste...

cheap not always best

Unfortunately, most Singaporeans are too trusting and do not appreciate the values of financially strong and stable companies :p

The fact is if the company is willing to give huge discounts just to get their customers, its not going to be sustainable in the long run because this is not a low-cost business to be in unlike what most people think.

Already 2 higher profile training centres in trouble the past six months, wonder how many more will go the same way :(

Guys

I am a staff engineer and my main role is doing research but has been involve in some project management experience along the way. I am just about an year old in my current company and has been working 5 years in my ex co. In total, I have sufficient experience but my ex-boss which is my direct superior has since retired and also my director who is an ang mo but return to his own country. If they want proof, how am I going to get it for them to audit?

Ask my ex-boss to write letter for me? Or need to get back ex-company HR to ask for letter? The new snr management know nuts about what I do in the past.

Anyone knows how?

Dont think so much and apply for the exam 1st la bro.... when get audited then worry.. there are only 20% chance that u will be audited so dont think so far ahead. You can ask your ex colleage to help u to verify also... When there is a will there is a way...
