Guys

I am a staff engineer and my main role is doing research but has been involve in some project management experience along the way. I am just about an year old in my current company and has been working 5 years in my ex co. In total, I have sufficient experience but my ex-boss which is my direct superior has since retired and also my director who is an ang mo but return to his own country. If they want proof, how am I going to get it for them to audit?

Ask my ex-boss to write letter for me? Or need to get back ex-company HR to ask for letter? The new snr management know nuts about what I do in the past.

Anyone knows how?
By the way, I was one of the lucky few to be audited. :) Usually only 10% will be chosen, so don't really have to worry. And the audit actually have 2 categories, depending on your qualifications.

Doesn't matter if your ex-direct supervisor is retired. As long as you can contact him to verify and sign off your work experience you have presented to PMI during your application, everything will go well. If unable to contact him, the next best thing to do is to contact your fellow ex-team mate who worked in the same project as you, to verify and sign off.

And don't worry, the audit process is pretty straightforward if you have nothing to hide. I am not a PM yet, just a Project Lead in the IT industry. PMI is just looking at your project leading/directing experience. As long as someone within your team can verify your experience, it will be fine. Does not have to be Manager/Supervisor/Director. If you want further details on my audit, feel free to PM me. ;)

but not sure about Comat and New Horizon.

From experience, I prefer not to be trained at New Horizon if I have to. Bad experience attending other non-PMP related courses. My friend did his PMP course at Comat (I think it is about $3.7-3.8k) and his feedback is pretty good. For me, I did my PMP course at ESI International, which was abotu $4k. I think it is abit pricey especially those who are self-sponsored, but a lot of my colleagues use them, giving very good feedback on the teaching style.

Actually my friend and I attended PMP at Project Pro some months ago - very good - great materials and trainer, and definitely we paid a lot less than that from other places posted here. I think it was $2500 with Rita book all in - it was promotion but it may still be available - go check it out! Why pay >3K even >4K for the same thing guys :) I don;t know.. maybe the expensive ones give free pen and file and fancy buffets... rather eat at hawker centre for lunch and save over 1.5K!

My friend al-leady passed first time and going to get his 80% citrep money back ... as for me my exam date in May... wish me luck!

How is the teaching at new horizon? Are we able to get some grants etc?

I had taken at New Horizon and was lucky to learn from one of their instructor Jeffery Foo.
He was good at pointing out what is to be learnt academically and actual work practices on project management.

Unfortunately he seems more to focus on ITIL now and my friend took from another indian PMP instructor(just started yesterday)....not too sure of the name.

Previously I also consider Informatics and Newhorizons but finally settled on Project Pro - if i remember the prices at these 3 places about the same. Inofrmatics too far for me but New horizon actually convenient location. But trainer at this two places seem to keep changing and their background also very technical - may be they also do IT training at these places.

My purpose of doing PMP is to learn more about the management aspect, so dont want trainer with mainly technical background - if i want technical knowledge then i go for technical training. PMp is not technical at all so i was looking for trainer with more managment and consulting type of experience to learn from and Project Pro one suit me very well.

Me and my classmates find the claculation questions quite ok but have difficulty with the management and softskill ones (can be tricky) - need more explanation on this from the trainer, so work out good for me! Another lady with marketing type industry find the calculation ones more chalenging... haha... everyone different! just to share how i choose. cheers :))

Dont know much about ikompas - never hear much about them. ERC - see a lot of ads in Today - all kind of courses - kids one also included, motiviation, investment, enterprenuer, casino, so many... very rojak. Dont know le but my impression is like that not at all focus - after Pmp trainer also teach kids one then how? Or teach gambling one come teach Pmp?? Ha ha! I think go focus and specialised place definitely better.

Ok, noted. Thanks for your reply. :)

p/s: the application for certification takes quite a long time, right? Need to fill in projects handled with time (hrs) allocation by process categories to demonstrate that meet the 4500 hrs ...? :s31:

Yeah the 4500 hrs is kind of a pain in the ..... but luckily for me didnt take that long. In and out but done over a few days. If your projects bigger then one project can use up many hours then faster to end. A friend of mine had all smaller ones so he took long time to enter. Also hope you not audited.... else lagi worse! I escape audit :)

My projects a mix of small (short) and medium (longer) ones. Starting to work on it (some based on memory & estimation) on excel spreadsheet ...

Actually I just type the hours in directly into the website - much easier than go excel. If excel, then must still type in again one by one into the website. The system also do summary and add for you and you can always adjust if necesarry. That is what my trainer advise and I follow ... turn out quite strtaightforward =)

Their lecturer is good, local guy.
Our company's PMP training class was taught by him.
Most of my colleagues who attended with me last year in Jan have passed on the first round, will recommend this company.

Knowledge Method

Anyone keen to take up PMP before the CITREP grant gets reduced next month? In order to get the "old" CITREP of 80%, need to start 1st day before 31 March. Subsequent lessons doesn't matter when you take.

I'm planning to take up with Knowledge Method, and can get discounted price only if I sign up with another person.

Course dates: 28 March Monday to 1 April Friday

I myself am planning to start only one day on 28 Mar, and thereafter attend their next available weekend class in April.

Do PM me if you are interested to sign up together for the discount!! :s12:
