If u know how to ride automatic bike, renting a motorcycle might be a good choice. Otherwise renting a car is also not expensive

No point taking their tourist carrot chopping taxis

Personally would book a driver for day trip and airport transfer
wont rent car drive in phuket.
hence would usually stay near jungceylon ...

For australia and Japan, would rent and drive.

For airport transfer, you may want to contact them directly.
If u book your own driver, normally they would quote you 600 for 2pax, 700pax for 3 to 4pax, 900b onwards for 5 or more passengers ...

phuket is somehow different from bangkok ...
Phuket is more of a tourist place, where you would be carrot head ...

grab starts from 250b onwards ...
taxi tuk tuk also 200+ onwards usually ...

grab is not cheap in phuket ...
grab is more affordable in bangkok ...

Krabi cheaper. I rented a motorbike for 100 baht for a couple of hours, just to ride around the area. With 3 kids now, I can't do that.

Any recommendations for a nice resort, maybe close to beach, and not so hotel-like. Something different.

Not so. quite curvy and up and down a lot.

The roads at patong area is usually 2 lanes on each direction
On the first lane, cars normally drive fast ...
On the slower lane, normally there would be lorry or heavy vehicles

There is a stretch of road at patong area ...
the curve was a big one, going from up to down, then up to down again ...

definietly recommend rental also - the taxis are quite expensive so it added a lot to me trip as the hotel was a bit far from the central areas

taxi there and grab is very expensive ...
short distance 5 to 10 minutes also need 250b onwards ...

is good to stay near the mall or beach (if u go beach often) ...

U can consider booking your own driver.
Normally 6 hours is about 1500b, 8 hours is 1800b

can bring you to

central festival
central floresta
wat chalong
big buddha
cashew nut factory (not cheap there)
bee farm (not cheap there)
3 beach viewpoint
other chinese temples etc ...

Haha we going in a group of 4 so I thought renting a vehicle would be better plus safer. I going in August, raining season I scared soak in the rain haha
