Weren't those the days inflation was more than 2-3%
Yes

but think about this

u r getting ard 4% interest when inflation was 4-5% then

now u r getting 1-2% in a best scenarion 2-3% inflation environment, with the legacy price increases over the past years to deal with

shldnt one look for more greener pastures?

Those have already been priced in; the value of your initial deposit had already grown with the interest of yesteryear.

As long as people are willing to accept risks, deposit interest will always lag inflation. The margin depends on the inflation rate of that particular day.

Old people, retirees generally will not try to take any risk.

The only way to beat inflation and earn better interest is doing stock trading ☝️
For older people or retirees, not possible. Get burn all his whole life saving gone. Not worth it.

Not possible as fed cutting interest this week?
FYI, US only dropped rates 0.5% only for 2025 , The SORA has dropped from 3% to 1% a 2% drop . Most likely will stay below 1.5% for the next year unless major events happening.
