How is this D3400 compare with iPhone x and Samsung S9?

A camera is only as good as the person using it.

Maybe go Flickr and search for photos taken by either cameras.

In technical terms the d3400 has a much larger sensor than any phone camera allowing to to capture pictures with much higher dynamic range, detail etc.

However the d3400 is Nikon bare bones model. They seem to cut alot of features from the d3300 to reduce cost.

This affects the camera usiblity if you are used to taking photos from a Phone. For example the Nikon has very few autofocus points, no touch screen, no WiFi ,and only takes 1080p videos.

I'm still struggling between a compact and entry level DSLR camera.

The latter is quite bulky but quality of photos is very good.

The feedback from my friends is generally they use their DSLR only once or twice a year. In Carousell many people are selling their very underused DSLR cameras too.

Am I the only one who feels guilty if I did not use my camera at least once a week

I seen many people use their dlsr in the same way they use their phone cameras. I.e take photos of the same object with a same composition and using fully automatic mode just like if they are using their phone camera

At most the pictures that come out will just be a sharper version of the same photo that they can take with their phone.

A DSLR or mirroless camera can be a gatetway drug into the world of photography opening up much more control, experimentations, flexibility and available equipment to the user. Its a shame most don't utilise its features.

There is no way a handphone camera can beat a DSLR camera, especially once you blow up the image.

How about a micro 4/3~¿
Some are quite compact which means you are more likely to use it since you hate bulky cams.
Quality you need to judge for yourself, I find them good even for low light conditions~

More 30x zoom (720mm eq) on wx500

Did more testing in dark areas. in video mode if it is dark the video will be black without noise. photo mode will take noisy pics.
On a dslr with f1.4 lens, the video can still see objects in dark areas just like what our eyes can see

but why should u blow is all up leh?

in cases you want to crop in/do large prints. but in any ways, the d3400 will take higher resolution photos. 24megapixels vs 12megapixels.

actually sony mirrorless full frame is seen as a one with better low light capabilities. nikon and canon are mostly similar

i think of getting Canon EOS M10, but i need to get better lens for zoom shot.
compact camera range like $500-$600 also gd but got con.

but again, end of the day. I only use auto mode

The photos look a bit random and without composition - I supposed you were just testing the camera's technology. The optical zoom is good but MRT is a bit fuzzy as it was moving.

not at all. the sensor size is still way larger on a dslr than a smartphone camera. smartphones are good for everyday pictures to post on instagram etc but when it comes to serious photography (weddings/product shoots/event coverage etc) a dslr still comes out on top.

dslr have interchangeable lens system. smartphones does not. dslrs have optical zoom, smartphones does not (well technically some have.. but its like those 2x/3x zooms... with 2 sensors)

there is a reason why there are people still using dslrs instead of smartphones for everything.. just because its just better.

You cant have superzoom, compact, below 600 and good image quality.
