When's like a good time to buy a camera?
My parents agreed to buy me an a6000 for my CCA which I'll pay off from working part time,

to my understanding waiting for IT fairs doesn't really matter,
but what about the GSS period?
Do shops like Cathay etc. drop prices much lower than they currently are?

Or no point waiting, better buy now and start taking pictures haha

The usual price used to be $899 a month ago before it dropped to $849 recently at Courts.

Sony A6000 user here. I would advice you to experience the 16-50mm kit lens first for a few months and focus on skills and techniques to get your picture right first. Once you perfected your technique, review your pictures taken from kit lens and ask yourself if you need to upgrade to better lens or are you already satisfied with you picture quality?

Do not make the beginner mistake of starting off to buy all sorts of lens and end up not really using them. A kit lens will make you realise at what focal length you like to shoot most. You might want to complement a Sony 55-210mm zoom lens which is S$300 brand new. This allows you to explore additional focal lengths not covered by the kit lens.

In total, I spent about $500+ for a 2nd hand DSLR camera, two lens, one tripod, two camera bags and one dry box.

I realise that squeezing out time to practice shooting is really difficult. Luckily, it is only $500+ so even if I use it occasionally, the depreciation is not that high. Hence, for the 1st camera, I recommend to just get a good 2nd hand one until one is very sure of the interest and time in developing the skills further.

For most photographs for work purpose, I still rely on my Mate 9 handphone as I don't need that high quality or good composition in my photos to get my point across.

Learning is the fun part.

You can't expect the photos you take will be as good as what you can find on Flickr etc on your first attempts.

Only through practice you will know what camera setting does what to the photograph

I see the Flickr photos for WX500... all very nice sia! Are there a lot of Lightroom post-processing involved to make it look so pro? Just point and shoot on auto-mode can anot?

Having the right tools is one thing, knowing what and how to shoot is another. Photos just mean the camera is able to shoot these photos. Whether one will be able to get photos like that is up to the photographer. The auto may be able to get such photos, but it is still auto mode and won't be as efficient as knowing exactly how the shot should be and what settings to use.

anyway i sold away my wx500 because not satisfied with the quality. Superzoom camera have 3.x f stop, so not suitable for low light. if you just take photo in the day should be ok.
