I always wanted this feature but realized there's the problem of piping and cleaning the associated plumbing or water storage tank.

so end up getting a stand-alone ice maker instead

Didn't encounter the problem you'd described for the pass 20 years.

Now on 2nd Hitachi Fridge, bigger, different model, different ice maker. 2 yrs down. let's see.

Still a feature that I like. ie, you won't know when you will need it, and when you do, hell yea...

wait, aint u told to let it stand upright first for 6-12hrs before powering on?
is to allow the refrigerant to stabilize & the compressor oil to flow back from all the transportation

nowadays don't need 6 to 12 hours already, my last 3 fridge all say 1 hour can liao.

still not cold? fridge must have sufficient air gap on all sides for air circulation also.
