Interestingly I am different. I use a wide grip and I unconsciously tuck my elbows in. When I use a close grip, I sometimes unconsciously tuck my elbows out. While others (like above posters) may experience the exact opposite. It may be due to lifting habit, physical structure etc.

I think that the most painless, comfortable, and strongest (this is debatable) grip is one's personal ideal grip. This may be a process that takes months, and many sessions of tweaking here and there. Then again, one may feel that this is starting to get too unnecessarily technical, to use months to find an ideal grip. So it all depends on the individual. Some people settle down to a grip quite decisively. Powerlifter Konstantin Konstantinov appears to be 6'3 and he uses quite the close grip.

IIRC he did it to save his shoulders. Not 100% sure on this though. Wendler uses a pretty close grip as well.

@liftstrong

IIRC, he is in the Volleyball team in secondary school, and he is trained very hard when he was very young (doing push ups, now he can do many one handed :eek:), so he got good foundation.

Konstantinov's a beast. Unbelievable deadlifts somewhere close to a grand I believe.

Anyway i do ocassionally play basketball when i was in primary school.
Super active and love sports.
Love sprinting too. But not really fast. Record was only 12.23sec for 100m when i was 14.

My Vertical jump was 70cm~ around 14y.o, i think i can't even jump 60vertical jump.
SBJ hit 270++ at 14, now can't even jump 250.

well if you ever want to increase your speed/vert again for some reason. be sure to read the vertical jump bible by kelly baggett. alot of good information in there :D maybe its cause you havent been jumping/sprinting much.

I watched an interview where he says he uses close grip because he's stronger with it.

Wendler uses close grip because of the aforementioned shoulder saving.
