as a fujitsu user, i would advice you to switch to other brands, fujitsu is hot. notebooks like IBM has a more inferior built quality that feels more solid.

I had the same feeling as you do.

Holding IBM is like holding on a old Ericsson 300 series. Hardy.

Holding Fujitsu is like holding on a latest LG Chocolate. Stylish, but worry.

Given a choice again, I prefer stylish.. lol :s13:

a long long story

This is my first post, not sure if posting here is appropriate. I want to express my disappointment in fujitsu. While my e7010 laptop had been serving me quite well for the past 3 years, it broke down recently. When i pressed the power switch, nothing happened. The monitor wasnt lighted at all. So I had it sent to the service centre.

Being out of warranty, I paid $80.40 for the checkup. i waited for 6 days for the service centre to inform me on the status of my laptop. But no call. so i initiated the first move by calling back the centre.

was told harddisk spoilt because of bad sector. the engineer tried to call me 2 days after i sent in the laptop but couldnt get through. Replacement cost $290 for 40Gb, $390 for 60Gb. Very expensive. so i collect the laptop and had the harddisk replaced for $138 for 80Gb.

But the same evening, just a few hours out of the service centre, i still couldnt on my laptop, same symptoms. sent it back to the centre again the next day. Was told motherboard spoilt, replacement costs $714 before gst.

>( Very angry at the fujitsu. Called me only once and concluded that my hp number is not correct. NO effort made to call again until i called back. shldnt they called at least twice?

Then first time told me is harddisk bad sector, second time told me both harddisk and mainboard spoilt. If i had known about the mainboard's problem, i wont repaired my harddisk at other shops. $710 plus a few more hundred can get me a new pc. how come they couldnt detect both failures at the first time?

still dare to tell me your mainboard may be spoilt but your harddisk is "definitely spoilt". Shldnt i be pissed at the fujitsu?

Hi wenasaur,

You say that you try to switch on the power, nthing came out? Not even the fujitsu logo screen? Or completely no power at all? Hmmm..did the engineer told you that the main cause was the HDD itself or he just say that he found out another fault in ur lappy? I believe it might be some miscommunication if that the case. As for calling up to you.. did you check with them what is the number that you gave it to them?

The 1st time you send in to service, did they say it was the HDD that cause the main issue?
On the 2nd time before you came to service, you purchase a 80GB HDD by yourself outside.. In the process of changing a new HDD, did you do in correct steps? 1 small single mistake will cause fatal fault in it. Hmmm... of course they couldnt detect both are faulty if the mainboard was tested working fine in the 1st place wat.. who knows it might be faulty after you change a new 80GB hdd leh?

Nothing came out. No logos, no bio screen. All i can hear is the fan moving and see the led blinked. The monitor wasnt lighted up at all. Sometimes, if lucky, i can hear beep beep beep sound too.

will hdd's bad sector cause this problem, affecting the power switch?

they only tried to called me once (which was on sun). I was sleeping at that time, din pick up the phone. din know they called. Just had a strange missing call number on my hp. Its not fujitsu's telephone number.

so i wait n wait for their call, sat, sun, mon, tues n wed. couldnt stand the wait, so i called for the first time on thurs. was told, my engineer called you on sun but he couldnt get through. -.- he only bothered to call once. It is there they told me my hdd spoilt due to bad sector.

NOT miscomm. i did asked if its the hdd only. The reply was yes.

My number is definitely correct. they had my number in the system when i sent my laptop for repair in henderson a few months back. funan's people confirmed my number at the first checkup.

haha, i din repair myself, dun dare to do so. asked a shop in funan to help me replace. though replaced, initially the laptop still couldnt be on. tried for quite some time before the laptop could be on and i formatted hdd, install win etc. used it for two hours after installation n it was gone at night. same thing power couldnt be on.

The next day, i called again, describing the symptons my lappie had. was told to bring laptop for checkup again. at fujitsu service center, i told the person about the symptoms again. she brought the lappy into the office, came out saying that mainboard is spoilt but your hdd was definitely spoilt. seems to be that they only manage to detect the hdd problem the first time round.

Hmmm, If that the case, it is likely to be mainboard or ram that cause the issue as u mention u heard beeping sound. As for calling, since the engineer DID call you and ur sleeping and since you say that u saw a strange missing call number, you should call back instead of waiting for few days and call back.. Do remember that ur not the only whose lappy is in servicing.. got others as well!! Hmmm, your problem is intermittenly? or every time is always either beeping sound or just the fan is running?

fan is always running when i pressed the power. Beeping sound occurs irregularly. maybe ram got problem too. but it doesnt matter anymore, since i wont be replacing mainboard. $714 before gst for mainboard, can buy me half a new pc.

bad experience from replying missed calls; called back, pple tell u wrong number, they didnt call etc...

i still cannot get over the fact that they didnt manage to detect mainboard's failure at the first check-up. the service counter also cannot on my laptop when i sent it in. haiz... if i had the hdd replaced at the centre for $290, maybe i can get back the amount or the mainboard's failure can be detected immediately, not after i complained.

for those interested in upgrading their hdd, i was quoted
40 gb for 290
60 gb for 390
80 gb for 400+ (not too sure, too expensive for me to remember)

Hi All ... i have just purchased S6240 recently. Everything seems fine to me except that when i charge the unit, there is no light at the exterior of LCD indicating tat its charging. Is this due to a hardware issue or Software issue? And can any kind person duplicate a S6240 recovery CD for me? Thanks in advance ~

what u mean by exterior of LCD? is it the LCD panel or the LED display? is ur laptop on or off? and if you are doing a charge, try taking a peek at the LED display that is found beside the application button. there should be a straight line and 3 broken lines below the straight line (AC power) with an arrow pointing to the battery icon if you are charging.

Is your machine still in warranty?

If no, you can get a hdd easily at sls at a lower cost. Of course, if anything went wrong while installation, it will/will not cost you more than the hdd quoted.

Take the risk. That what we do on D.I.Y. machine.
