Japan but one of my teacher say the parts made in taiwan..

Fujitsu laptop itself is made in Japan. Black and white written. Parts like Processor itself may not be made by Fujitsu itself so it couldn't be made in Japan mah. It may be made in US, and shipped to Fujitsu JAPAN.

All those parts that Fujitsu claims that it is theirs is definitely made in Japan. For example, their battery. They have their own in-house battery.

Fujitsu service center does that but it is costly. The service charge itself is $80 w/o GST.

Yesh, it is true. Fujitsu itself is all made in Japan. Unless you are talking about Fujitsu does sell any set that is lower than $1.5K. Then there is a possibility that the set itself is not made in Japan. but neverthelessly, you can check the bottom of the laptop.

Do note that the Desktop of Fujitsu, the lower end one which is around $800 which is made in Singapore and another higher end one is made in China. So note on this part. Where else for the laptop, majority or 95% of them are made in Japan.

fujitsu already moving some of the parts of production to China. There are also certain Fujitsu-Siemens joint venture models which are printed as Made in China.
The Fujitsu N series and the new cheaper models are also Made in China.
Same for Sony N & C series.

Made in Japan just mades that the laptop is assembled in Japan.
Firstly, components like keyboard, LCDs, CPU, Harddisk, RAM, optical drive, adaptor, wireless card, bluetooth card are generic parts which are from 3rd parties. These parts can be made in China, USA, Mexico, Taiwan etc.
The only parts that are fujitsu designed are the Chasis and motherboard only.
These are usually made in China or Taiwan too, definitely not Japan.
For batteries, note that the battery PCB circuitry might be Japan designed, but the battery PCB board is made in China too. the internal batteries cells are not in house by fujitsu definitely. Do a google search, you will find that for the recent recall of Sony laptop battery cells, Fujitsu is one of the companies who recall it back.
Fujitsu does not produce their own laptop battery cells as far as I konw. Correct me if I am wrong. Japanese major battery cells producers are Sony, Panasonic and Sanyo.
We also have Korean cells such as LG.

Fujitsu is just Assembled in Japan, QC in Japan, this is enough for them to put down as Made in Japan, as the final product is finish at Japan. Quality is likely to be better due to the higher QC standards in Japan. That's all. Nothing to shout about.

wat is weight saver option dude?

A dummy plastic to fill up the void of the swappable optical drive so that you will not see a hole in your lappie when you take out the optical drive.
With the optical drive, the laptop weighs around 2kg, if you take out the drive and replace with the weight saver aka dummy plastic, it weighs around 1.8kg.

downgrading from vista to xp

hi.. i'm posting on behalf of a friend... he was trying to downgrade his OS from vista to xp on his laptop (fujitsu S7111). apparently, no harddisk was detacted when he was at the win xp setup screen.. the error message was something like "please ensure hdd is installed and powered on"... anyone knows what's the reason behind this?

the harddisk is detected on the bios though...

just a point to note,
when on batt mode, there will be many attributes that uses the batt power thus might not be able to last 5 hrs (S7110). if u r on wireless, bluetooth, setting ur brightness and volume to max, using optical drive, ur battery life will be alot last as all these things uses power. cheers

it is up to individuals. cos wat poly offers would be quite cheap but the specs might be lower.
eg. no built-in bluetooth. but nevetherless, u can still do a comparison when the roadshow is on.

oh! and please do see the difference in the warranty cos sometimes for schools, there warranty might be beta than the ones in the market.

You have no SATA drivers in the Win xp installation disk.

You can either slipstream SATA drivers into the Win XP installation disk.
Use google for more information.

OR

Download the SATA drivers from Fujitsu website.
copy the drivers into a Floppy disc. Also get a USB Floppy drive. Make sure the brand of the FDD is Teac. Most other brands don't work.
On installation of Win XP, press F6 for installation of other SCSI drivers etc.
You will not see any response on pressing F6 immediately. Wait a while, windows will detect your floppy and ask you to install the SATA drivers.

After installation of SATA drivers, DO NOT plug out the USB FDD. The drivers will be required for the second time. (If you are using other brands of FDD other than Teac, the OS will NOT be able to recognize the FDD and the drivers cannot be installed).

After that, continue the installation as per normal.

It is a matter on how you see it. Of course school one can give you everything ranging from the software itself needed for your education road.

If you do not required the software given by your institute, why force yourself to accept that particular 4 models?
