Gas pipe installation

haha... apparently modification of gas pipe require qualify contractor to do, be it how small the modification.
Encounter this for my condo reno last nov, just shift the pipe, ID quote me 1.6K. In the end didnt do, citygas guy came, and extend the hose for me.

Thats very correct. You require a licensed gas worker to make alterations / repairs for privately own dwellings.

In your case, I am not sure how u did it with citygas but congrats!

Not a small work, cause if they don’t do properly imagine your place getting blown or fire started due to gas leak

If you are not going to extend or relocate gas pipe,
City energy can help to turn off & remove stove pipe & cap at $90. But if extend or re-run gas pipe, u need to get a private gas contractor.
How private gas contractor charge:
-Submission fee to authority, prep drawing submission, endorsement, proof test & gas turn on wif authority & LGSW
-Installation c/w x-ray test above ceiling for new gas hob, piping connect to gas & meter
All these add up range from $2000 - $2500 bf gst
If got other additional work will depend on additional charges

For condo owner, suggest using electrical stove will save up more then gas cos electrical stove u can use more then 20 amp stove but not for HDB, additional 25amp cable is only $300 compare u spend thousands for gas stove for those condo owner

I am renovating. The given gas pipe hangs low and runs around my unit, making it impossible for me to install fancoils at a desired height. Can I request to move the gas pipe a few cm upwards?

Another poster already shared cost for gas pipe work, a contractor also told me gas pipe work is a $2k job. If you are in the midst of reno then another factor will be time as it might add a few days to weeks delay to your reno depending on the appointment you get from the piping work contractor.

My ID said he has checked and he’s told that as my main pipe is at that area, nothing can be done to it. Only “extension type” can be changed. How true is that?
