One thing I like about the old school PAP is that the Old Guards were not as pro-immigrants as the current one.

And old school PAP won votes via winning people's trust for jobs well done, whereas current one still need to resort to GRC system, drawing redrawing electoral boundaries, giving out all kinds of handouts, to win votes.

Think certain perspectives see, starting out incumbent tend focus more on people livelihood, improving life. The basic of things. More of them tend came up from the ranks of ordinary people, where even if superior also not by much then. Most were more or less equals.

So, more of them tend are closer to and can relate to the ordinary people, willing to fight for the ordinary people cause. There isn't that many levels between them and the ordinary people. Ordinary people also can relate to them more.

But think after things were going more smoother, they decided to pay themselves more handsomely and sit on their laurels of sort more perhaps. Stay more in the ivory tower and create alot of levels below with ka-kia reporting to them of what happening on the ground. Thus imagine the world out there more maybe.

End up they became more detached from the people, with so many layers between them and the people. Sort of started to think of other ways to control the people support instead of just simply working for it like in the past.

The committee have to figure out a better reason instead of population distribution.
There will always be some disparity.
As for unfairness, there will always be if they want to re-draw before every campaign.
If they dun do any re-drawing, will there be any noise about unfairness ?

The GRC system was set up on The Old Man’s watch before he handed over to GCT, the 1st GE with GRCs happened when The Old Man was still PM.


They do their campaigning like PAP too. Apart from PAP, no other party places that much focus on photo-op.

OK. When LKY was still around, but AFTER all other Old Guards -GKS, TCC, LKS etc - had retired.. and after PAP started losing seats to oppositions (JBJ, CST) in the 80s.

Incidentally, the town council system was also introduced in the 80s..

There was a reason why Toh Chin Chye, Ngiam Tong Dow, Devon Nair, Ong Teng Cheong and even David Marshall(originally WP) who had close ties to the PAP also expressed disappointment with PAP/LKY during the later years.

He just wanted power to be handed over to his son, but by doing so he created a system which resulted in a guaranteed supermajority for Sg via a lot of restrictions for oppositions to make inroads.

GCT was just a figurehead, he strongly watched over him so that power would be transferred to his son at a later timing.

Standard pap packages when GE time.
1. Give goodie to bribe citizen using annual budget
2. Use loyalty hardcore supporters as pawn and tools by moving them around the boundaries to dilute the vote of opposition.
3. Arrange lot of events and walk about
4. Release motherhood statement that they care.when email for clarification reply back with boilerplate email.
