Three-quarters of People's Alliance for Reform's team in Jalan Besar GRC are here talking to residents, minus pre-school educator Ms Vignes Ramachandran, who again was unable to join the others due to work commitments.
Mr Chiu Shin Kong, a private tutor, told me her absence “doesn’t affect us at all” because the team has been walking the ground since the last election.
Ms Sarina Abu Hassan rebutted PAP candidate for Sembawang GRC Ms Mariam Jaafar’s “bounced cheque worse than blank cheque” comment at Monday's rally.
“You will only know that it is bounced if you have actually banked in the cheque,” said Ms Sarina, arguing that this can’t be done without giving the opposition an opportunity to perform in parliament.

Mr Chiu also responded to Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam, who at PAP's rally last night said it would be wise to ask questions when political parties claim that things can be given for free.
PAR has proposed free school meals, free healthcare and free education up to university for every Singaporean child.
Mr Chiu pointed to PAR chief Lim Tean’s explanation on how those schemes would be funded.
At a rally on Saturday, Mr Lim said the PAR’s programmes would be funded from the difference between “what the government earns with your CPF money and what it pays out to you”.
He also pointed to the government’s special transfers, including top-ups to endowment and trust funds. According to data from the FY2025 Budget, the revised FY2024 special transfers sum, including top-ups, was S$25.1 billion.
“So I don’t see how we are actually being irresponsible,” said Mr Chiu.
He also hit back at SM Lee Hsien Loong’s comment that “losing key ministers” would spell trouble for Singapore, claiming that ministers could be “seconded from the opposition”.
Mr Chiu, Ms Sarina, Ms Vignes and Mr Mohamad Hamim Aliyas are running against a PAP team led by Minister for Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo in Jalan Besar GRC.
