Tariff news are losing steam and media attention already, can disband this tariff task force soon because the tariffs will soon become irrelevant and outdated. PAP will try their best to milk this so called crisis till its dry.

Knowing their pattern, they can continue to monitor and propose to raise GST to another 10 or 11% to combat tariff?

Vote wisely.

Many signed on skolars dun really want a military career all their lives

they like to ord someday at 40++ after attain general rank and hope pap will give them a shot at civillian life either in politics or a cushy post in stat boards

pap knew this, right from the beginning when saf is being formed, and giving generals cushy civillian jobs have the benefit of preventing saf generals being too powerful in the armed forces and attempting a coup

that will not be good in sg...

LKY and TCC anticipated it and has informally written it into a policy when hiring saf skolars, who eventually went on to becum generals
Occifer 50 yrs old have to retire liao, so is better to leave when got a way out :o

trump tariffs are meant to balance out american trade deficits

so singapore will experience even larger trade deficits with america due to higher tariffs making our goods & services less competitive

this leads to less demand for sgd due to less exports to america

with reduced demand for sgd, our currency value should go down and mas might need to buy more sgd and sell usd to support it. who knows but this could be the bottom of the ringgit? because of trump tariffs, perhaps the ringgit will start going up against sgd and malaysians will have reduced incentive to work here

if this is true, thank you trump! but many businesses will be impacted because they need cheap labor to survive. once again, thank you trump shu shu

Trump's tariffs was to force foes and allies to buy his maturing US Treasuries in Jun 2025 at super low rates to save America's serious debt issue. Never about bringing balance. America has trade surplus with many countries including Singapore and still they slapped us with 10%.

Your economic 101 understanding is wrong fundamentally.

So you saying that Trump will make less foreigners work in SG? I think many people here will be happy! Less FTs, more jobs for sinkies!

businessmen won't be happy. construction & manufacturing are all about labor quota, wp, spass, ads to hire sinkies but actually to hire foreigners. the best thing is for a prolonged economic downturn. up also die, might as well go down right?

Maybe it's because nobody knows that they need to setup a taskforce to study this? Then again I am not expecting anything tangible from the PAP.

Their policies in the recent decade have been mostly incremental and superficial. Skillsfuture lah, baby bonus, etc. That don't really move the needle, just for showing that they've done something. Any tom dick and harry do what they do.

but relying it on non qualified candidates will doom us.. we should vote for the best candidates in. some opposition are well qualified but most of them are not.. if every parliament session of like 8-10 hours we see bickering of small issues .. that is a waste of time..vote for individuals who can solve problems and make constructive feedbacks..not vote for oppositions for the sake of voting for opposition

Read HWZ Forum Rules!
The main problem here is most of the elitists party MPs do not really speak up. Parliament is most of the time empty and those who can really speak up are not participating in the coming election...e g...Louis Ng and Tan Wu Meng. The way the incumbent attacks the opposition in a condescend manner makes people wonder whether that is their true self and if it is, what makes them better?
As a matter of facts, you have painted the worst scenario and also making an assumption that all members from the incumbent are capable of negotiation with world leaders... again, that may not be the case...
