【GE2025】民主党戈麦斯：20年前就在三巴旺开始耕耘​

新加坡民主党称早在20年前已在三巴旺开始耕耘，并于2022年在基层为本届大选做准备。

民主党星期五（4月25日）晚上在崇辉小学（Beacon Primary School）举行第二场群众大会。

代表民主党竞逐三巴旺集选区的戈麦斯（James Gomez，60岁）发言时说，民主党早在20年前，就开始在三巴旺耕耘，积极与居民交流，听取他们的心声，了解他们的需求。民主党在2006年和2011年全国大选中，都有派出候选人在三巴旺集选区参选。

根据新加坡选举局网站，民主党在2006年以23.20％的得票率输给人民行动党。在2011年的全国大选，民主党以36.10％的得票率败给行动党。

戈麦斯说，在2015年全国大选中，选区范围重划后，三巴旺集选区很大一部分划入新的马西岭—油池集选区。民主党因此决定在2015年和2020年角逐马西岭—油池集选区议席。

人民党在2015年和2020年的全国大选中，分别以31.27%和36.82%的得票率，输给行动党的马西岭—油池集选区竞选团队。

戈麦斯说，决定再次聚焦三巴旺集选区，其中一个原因是它位于马西岭—油池集选区附近，是个“自然延伸”。另一个原因是不少居民向民主党反映对行动党的不满，包括走廊堆积杂物、地铁站周边拥挤和公共厕所非常肮脏等。

GE2025: NSP "takes a very serious stance" on foreign attempts to influence election


National Solidarity Party (NSP) candidate for Sembawang GRC Spencer Ng said that the party "takes a very serious stance" on foreign attempts to influence the election.

"The governance of Singapore should be decided by Singaporeans ourselves," said Mr Ng during a walkabout on Saturday (Apr 26) morning, adding that "Singaporeans should be aware, not be influenced by any foreign elements".

He also spoke about the residents that his team have been meeting, with some asking the NSP candidates why there is a three-corner fight at their constituency.

SDP “never left Sembawang” and has been around for 20 years, said Dr James Gomez, the opposition party’s candidate for the GRC, after a walkabout in Kampung Admiralty Hawker Centre.

This comes after Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said during a PAP rally speech on Thursday that SDP was forming a team to compete “after 10 years of not being interested in Sembawang GRC”.

Mr Ong leads the PAP's five-member slate for Sembawang.

SDP contested the GRC during the 2006 and 2011 elections, but lost to the PAP both times.

Dr Gomez pointed out that Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC was carved out of Sembawang GRC in 2015 — the same year Mr Lawrence Wong made his political debut, beating an SDP team. He repeated the win in 2020. This year, the PAP and SDP will face off in the constituency once again.

“We chose to remain in the larger Sembawang area in Marsiling-Yew Tee and we’ve been there for total 20 years,” he said.

“The reason why we stepped in is because the residents, they want a strong opposition and they’ve come to us to step in because they want an effective change to the problems they have in the town council.”

There will be a three-cornered fight in Sembawang GRC with the NSP also contesting in the constituency.

Bike care centre, community storage facilities and co-working spaces: SDP teases Sembawang town plan

SDP’s candidate for Sembawang GRC, James Gomez, had previously hinted during his party's rally that a town plan is in the works for the constituency.

Ahead of its release today, Dr Gomez outlined three issues the plan would tackle and said its tagline was "putting the heart back into the heartland".

First, a bike management system and a bike care centre to allow residents to “take care of their bikes better”.

The party also wants to introduce community storage facilities under HDB flats to help families who have a lot more items than they can keep at home.

These facilities would come with “resident-friendly” fees, Dr Gomez said.

Last but not least, SDP is also looking into community co-working spaces given that the nature of work and enterprise have changed, he added.

“At the moment, the libraries are not functional … You can't speak, there are no closed rooms,” Dr Gomez said, adding that there are no power sources for residents who want to use their laptops for longer durations.

SDP’s proposed co-working spaces would thus allow people to work, live and collaborate together, he said.
