CUT steak is really good .... very tender and juicy with a nice 'char' crust that gives is a flavorful texture.

the Porterhouse steak ( a huge 990g T-bone ) is quite worth it at $175 for sharing with 2 pax.

Is CUT the restaurant name?

yes. It's at MBS - by wolfgang puck.

I generally don't eat any "wagyu" from the lower end restaurants because it's just a low grade of wagyu that they charge you a premium for (sometimes like twice the price). You can go to a better steak place and eat a normal cut and it will be much better - like if you go to le bouchon, the price of the steak will probably be within a $10 range to the wagyu at Aston's but the quality and experience will be much better.

At the end of the day, when you're talking about steaks, there is a correlation between price and quality of the steak, albeit with the price increasing exponentially.

If you go to Morton's, order your steak "black and blue" if you're game for it. It's charred on the outside and blue on the inside.

If you want to cook, can always go to a good butcher like Hubers - try the argentine (I think it's good value for money) striploin (if you like the layer of fat) or the ribeye and ask them to season it for you - they can cut the thickness according to what you want. bring it home, you can also just put it straight into the oven (would be better to sear on the grill first then oven, but that's with a bit more experience). Ask the butcher what temperature and how long. do up some sides (e.g. mash or even frozen veg) and get a bottle (since in the economy mode, try out the argentine malbecs as they generally tend to be quite reasonably priced and decent for plonk). Then you're all set for date night where you can cook for your gal.

hougang central western just beside hougang plaza. one of best budget steak around. very prominent store as it's facing the passageway.

Noo.... those cannot be compared to real premium cut beef. Even Aston quality is fail if we are talking about real steak

If you are interested with Japanese-French style food, you can try Angus Steak House. Goes about 60-100 person depending on what you order.

I kind of enjoy their ambience and steak there.

Just went to Aston's. I'm constantly surprised by their inability to cook a steak to the correct doneness. No matter what I order, I always get a rare steak which is substantially uncooked in the middle.

I don't mind eating rare steaks but not certain about the low quality beef that Aston uses, so I'm not so keen to eat it so rare.

I prefer my steaks medium rare but Aston's always cooked it rare. I tried ordering medium well last night and it was still rare.

Not sure if I'm willing to give it another go, but the prices are really not bad for a sizeable chunk of protein, but only if they manage to get the doneness right.
