Actually it's ok on my Windows 7 machine. I can at least transfer files via MTP. But I can't even see the damn phone as a MTP device on Windows XP. The best I can do is only sync media via Windows Media Player, which is crap.

I answered this a few posts ago.

Use a file manager like astro. Go to /system and open up build.prop with a text editor or viewer.

Browse and look for a line that says ro.build.fingerprint=xxxxx

There can see either "samsung/yakjuxw" or "google/yakju"

mine is samsung...bah!

Strange....MTP devices appear on my XP like a MTP device, just slower and crappier. At least for my past and current Android device, dunno about GN's implementation of MTP. :(

No issue seeing it as a device on my XP machine. But can't open or view thumbnails of files directly. Those who frequently copy a lot of video files or like to use their phones as a portable storage drive will be irritated :(

Yeah, I had problems installing the MTP driver for the GN on Windows XP. Only the adb/fastboot drivers. I guess the only way to transfer files is to adb push/pull :(

I tried installing kies, naked samsung drivers, even installing straight from windows update. The MTP driver does get installed but I can only view the contents using Windows media player 10 and that's only to sync media files. I can't even do a proper file transfer...

Searching in xda doesn't show any proper solution too. No choice but to do my backup at home using my Win 7 pc.
