The beauty of having a Nexus phone is the ease of ability to unlock bootloader, root and install tweaked ROMs which improves the performance of the software by the active dev community at Rootzwiki & XDA.
I can't really understand the rational behind getting a developer phone and yet just hoping for Google to roll out the OTA when you can easily download the custom ROM from the dev community which is already has the latest code merged in. By 2nd day, there are already custom roms with 4.0.4 code merged in. Good examples are CM9 nightlies and AOKP nightly. Hell, there's even a stock 4.0.4 image ready for download there.
In my opinion, it just kills the intended fun of having a Nexus phone by just waiting for OTA upgrades.
No offence intended, just my 2 cents
