The beauty of having a Nexus phone is the ease of ability to unlock bootloader, root and install tweaked ROMs which improves the performance of the software by the active dev community at Rootzwiki & XDA.

I can't really understand the rational behind getting a developer phone and yet just hoping for Google to roll out the OTA when you can easily download the custom ROM from the dev community which is already has the latest code merged in. By 2nd day, there are already custom roms with 4.0.4 code merged in. Good examples are CM9 nightlies and AOKP nightly. Hell, there's even a stock 4.0.4 image ready for download there.

In my opinion, it just kills the intended fun of having a Nexus phone by just waiting for OTA upgrades.

No offence intended, just my 2 cents

Inside settings, if you click on a menu item, there will be a blue highlight which fades out on 4.0.3 and earlier. Now it just appears and disappears.
ya.. i noticed the menu item animation/problem. Anyone knows where can we buy some blank nfc tags?

Guys, seriously go root your Nexus and install a custom ROM with kernel = battery life improved by A LOT. And the phone is so much smoother. Using AOKP ROM with Franco Kernel, the updates for both of these are so damn good and fast!

Can't wait for milestone 5, those that have flashed to 4.0.4, how was it? How is the camera better?

Is it.. I think battery life is almost the same as the previous firmware. I didn't see the improvements in the battery life. Any other users of the new firmware can check on this issue??
Those who felt there isnt any difference in batt lifespan. What is your previous firmware?

I'm on 4.0.2 stock rom. The camera now looks better, able to focus well before taking the pictures. I just rooted and flashed Franco Kernel, hopefully the battery life will improve.

Need to get the Franco app?

That's the reason why I get the GNex over SGSII or Note at the current moment.

No, the main reason i bought nexus is because i dun wanna root.
I've rooting experience on Galaxy S, tired of it.
All i want is a vanilla android OS device with good specs and frequently update.

Then sadly, while you think you are the correct audience, the fact remains you are not. :(

Since the very first Nexus device, Google has consistently dropped the ball on updates. While the skinned devices from other manufacturers have always been late on updates, Google's own Nexus devices don't exactly get the widely perceived timely updates as well. Trace the update histories on the Nexus devices and you'll see. :(

What they do get is HARDWARE releases that have the latest OS version aka Nexus One/S/GN. Updates after that is always a crapshoot if you're depending on them to push to your devices aka see your luck. :D

true but ppl will have the impression that the OTA will come sooner coz no customization is needed..

think 4.0.3 is a version that is for the brands (HTC, Samsung and folks) to customize their phone.. then the real deal is 4.0.4.. thats why 4.0.3 image is not available.. jus some thinking..

Yeah, the perceived impression is there. But as posted above, factually, this isn't the case most of the time. :(

Yes, you do get updates to maybe 1 major later release. But after that, with each yearly new update to their Nexus line, don't pray too hard for that update. And in case no one has noticed, only major releases come with features that are useful. All those x.x.1 updates are bug fixes that bring nothing to the table. :(

Not sure how much importance those desperate for those x.x.1 updates place on them, but it's pretty safe to say less the much sleeker UI that stock Android, the old known advantages of Nexus devices are declining with each iteration. :(

Yes you are right on the minor updates for a nexus user. However, for any non-nexus phone regardless of any other brands, they can hope their OTA update will come before changing another one.

Yeah....same for the Nexus S users who waited until NOW then their ICS update come. :D I wondered how many got sick and tired of the wait before ditching it for a Galaxy Nexus or even a S2 with ICS. :(

I disagree. I've had every google device since ADP1. The Nexus ONE for example, had very easy updates. If your phone did not get OTA notification, no problem, the bootloader is not locked, so even stock unrooted, you can easily download the update.zip from Google web, and apply it. It's bloody Samsung with Nexus S and G Nexus which locked the bootloader.
