My Galaxy Nexus is locked!

I bought a Galaxy Nexus (export model) from a shop in Burlington Square on Saturday. As I was in a hurry, I forgot to test the phone. Just charged for the night and fly to Jakarta the next day.

On arrival in Jakarta ( I live there), I inserted the Indonesian SIM card, used wifi to login. All apps and data reinstalled but SIM is locked! I found out through using the IMEi that the phone is from Vodafone Australia. I then tried Vodafon website to get unlock code.. failed. Then samsuingimeiunlock.com, they could not as the codes are not out yet and got my payment refunded.

Please advise, anyone, what are my next options?

1) Go to the mobile shops in Jakarta to unlock (about S$30)
2) Root?
3) Go back to shop on next trip for exchange?

I have never rooted before so will it be very diffiucult?

Definition of difficult for rooting depends, at this point I'm saying yes unless you have the right tools.

I'd say if it's urgent, go to a shop in Jakarta to get it unlocked, S$30 but it's "fire and forget", no need to think about it again.

If not urgent, wait till you come back, then go to the shop and ask for an exchange or some solution from their end.

Good move.

Since the shop nearer you can solve your problem with $30, I'd also go for that.

Going back to Burlington might not be cost-free if they claim that that's what you paid for - export/locked set.

Strange that they would sell a locked phone, even if it's export set. They KNOW you wouldn't use a local sim card to test meh? If it's a Aussie Vodafone set, it wouldn't work with local sims as well.....

Those on trinity kernel, does it make a difference whether I get the 1.5Ghz kernel or the 1.3Ghz kernel? I want to run my Gnex with a max clock speed of 1.3Ghz, but still be able to clock it up to 1.5Ghz if I need to, without having to reflash kernel.

Hi guys, I am currently using the codename android rom 3.1.0. I like it a lot because of the numerous customisable functions. However I have this issue that the cpu speed doesn't stay after I have set it. For example I have set it to max 1200mhz and enable set on boot. After abuot a few hours of usage, the max cpu frequency will jump back to 700mhz.

Any idea is there something that I have not done?

Just an additional info, I have performed a full wipe before installing this rom.

I am also on CodenameAndroid, but not facing this problem... However I am using the Trinity kernel. I'm not sure why it will jump back to 700Mhz, especially if you didn't reboot. Usually it's at 1200Mhz if you don't change any options.

i guess u have to root then.. plus get jellybean at the same time..

Root cannot fix AFAIK.

I am not on any custom kernel. So that could be the problem.

Anyway I found a temp solution. I use SetCPU to set the max speed to 1200Mhz and so far after 1 whole morning of usage the speed remains the same.

The shop will not be able to unlock as the codes are not out yet. Only can hope for refund or exchange..

It was my mistake as I was in a hurry.. If cannot change, I will continue checking with the online unlocker SAMSUNG Galaxy Nexus Unlock - SAMSUNG IMEI UNLOCK for the codes. They refunded me before as the codes wasn't released by Samsung yet.
