Since the launch of Gemini 3 Pro and Nano Banana Pro, Google looks to have limited what free users can access in response to high demand.

When Gemini 3 Pro launched, free users (or those “without a Google AI plan”) got “Up to 5 prompts / day.” This matched Gemini 2.5 Pro access limits before the latest model launch. Additionally, they could use Nano Banana Pro (Gemini 3 Pro Image) generation and editing with “Up to 3 images / day.”

In the past few days, Google updated the access limits. Free users are now just guaranteed “Basic access” where “daily limits may change frequently” when using Thinking with 3 Pro.

That could be interpreted in either direction, but it’s most likely a decrease given the industry’s general demand trend lines. Supporting that is how Google has updated Nano Banana Pro access to a hard “2 images / day” with a note about how: “Image generation & editing is in high demand. Limits may change frequently and will reset daily.”

Additionally, NotebookLM on Tuesday “temporarily rolled back access” to new Nano Banana Pro-powered Infographics and Slide Decks. Free users lost access, while “additional limits” were implemented for Pro users.

Due to the overwhelming demand, we’re experiencing some capacity constraints… however we plan on bringing everything back to normal as soon as we can!

Available as new options in the Studio tab, Infographics let you create “high-quality, visual summaries of your sources.” Customization options include picking landscape, portrait, or square orientation, as well as the level of detail: concise, standard, or detailed (beta). There’s a prompt field to describe the style, color, and focus.

Slide Decks can be used for presentations or to get a “detailed deck for reading.”

  • Detailed Deck: A comprehensive deck with full text and details, perfect for emailing or reading on its own.
  • Presenter Slides: Clean, visual slides with key talking points to support you while you speak.
There are no Gemini app changes to the Google AI Pro or Ultra usage limits.

Following yesterday’s big launch, the Gemini app is adding a “new way to prompt with Nano Banana” by drawing or annotating directly on images. Additionally, SynthID now works on video.

After adding an image to the prompt box, select it to launch a “Mark up” editor. “Sketch” lets you draw, highlight, and point out specific parts of the image, with undo and redo in the top-right corner. The “Text” tool allows you to add prompts directly on the image.

This saves you from having to enter an actual instruction in the prompt box, but Google says “you can always add one if you’d like.” When you upload your first image, you’ll be prompted about this new capability. Prompting Nano Banana by drawing is now available on Android, iOS, and the web.

Meanwhile, the Gemini app is expanding SynthID verification to videos after adding image support in November. This lets you check if a video, including the audio, was created with or edited using Google AI.

After uploading a video that can be up to 100 MB and 90 seconds long, prompt with “Was this generated using Google AI?” or similar. Google will look for SynthID watermarks. The response “gives you context and specifies which segments contain elements generated using Google AI.” For example: “SynthID detected within the audio between 10-20 secs. No SynthID detected in the visuals.”

Video and image verification are rolled out to all Gemini app languages and countries.

In November, Google introduced Gemini 3 Pro in preview, with Gemini 3 Flash following a month later. Google today announced Gemini 3.1 Pro “for tasks where a simple answer isn’t enough.”

This .1 increment is a first for Google, with the past two generations seeing .5 as the mid-year model update. (2.5 Pro was first announced in March and saw further updates in May for I/O.)

Google says Gemini 3.1 Pro “represents a step forward in core reasoning.” The “upgraded core intelligence” that debuted last week with Gemini 3 Deep Think is now available in Gemini 3.1 Pro for more users.

This model achieves an ARC-AGI-2 score of 77.1%, or “more than double the reasoning performance of 3 Pro.”

This “advanced reasoning” translates to practical applications like when “you’re looking for a clear, visual explanation of a complex topic, a way to synthesize data into a single view, or bringing a creative project to life.”

3.1 Pro is designed for tasks where a simple answer isn’t enough, taking advanced reasoning and making it useful for your hardest challenges.

Gemini 3.1 Pro is rolling out to the Gemini app today, as well as NotebookLM for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.

It’s also available in the Gemini API via Google AI Studio, Antigravity, Vertex AI, Gemini Enterprise, Gemini CLI, and Android Studio for developers.

Gemini 3.1 Pro is launching in preview to “validate these updates and continue to make further advancements in areas such as ambitious agentic workflows before we make it generally available soon.”

TL;DR
  • Google has announced Nano Banana 2, with improved image quality and more consistent character design in the free version.
  • It can now also generate text more accurately and translate it into different languages.
  • Nano Banana 2 can now generate images in up to 4K resolution.

Google’s Nano Banana has undoubtedly been one of Gemini’s most loved features since its launch in August last year. Later in 2025, Google blessed the image generator with better reasoning and comprehension skills powered by Gemini 3 Pro, but limited these features to paying Gemini subscribers. Now, Google is extending the offering to a wider pool of users, with a refined image generation tool that is both as quick and better than last year’s version.

Google has just announced Nano Banana 2, which generates more consistent images without compromising speed. It uses the Gemini 3.1 Flash Image model. Google says it relies on Gemini’s perception of the real world and extracts information and images on the web in real-time for more accurate and realistic results.

If you’ve struggled with gibberish, or sometimes the extra letters, for text, Nano Banana 2 is likely to fix it. In addition to creating accurate stylized text on graphics, Nano Banana 2 can also recreate images by translating text into other languages, easing the process of localizing documents or creatives for different regions.

A big upgrade coming with Nano Banana 2 is its ability to maintain consistency across multiple images. Nano Banana 2 can also support consistency for up to five characters and combine up to 14 different objects from input images into a single output, which Nano Banana Pro already supports. Another aspect it borrows from the Pro version is the ability to interpret more complex instructions than before without missing the nuances.

Along with the other changes, Nano Banana 2 also improves image quality and can now create images with up to 4K resolution, surpassing its current cap of 2K resolution. We saw hints about this functionality in Gemini recently, along with the option to choose between 2K and 4K output.

Nano Banana 2 is replacing the previous generation across a range of apps, including Gemini, Google Search, Google AI Studio, paid API, and Google Ads. It’s also appearing in Google’s AI creative studio, Flow, which was enhanced with image generation skills only recently.
