Nexus 7 2013 dead pixels

Bought a Nexus 7 2013 edition 2 days ago, noticed dead pixels upon first boot up. It looks like a small cluster of bright pixels (maybe 2 next to each other) on the very noticeable position above the home button. Ran back to Challenger trying to change it but failed, got referred to Asus service centre. Next day, Asus serivce centre turned me down too, saying there needs to be more than 5 dead pixels to consider it faulty. He mentioned "dead pixel policy" and saying LCD screens are hard to make (what the hell? are we in the 80's?) and dead pixels are very common. I was very upset.

Anyone got a similar experience?

Refer Challenger to lemon law

Made some noise on Asus global site and Challenger's facebook page, finally got someone's attention. I still failed to get a 1 to 1 exchange from Challenger, Asus SG said they got a permission from Asus TW to repair the tablet for me. Ya, a repair, and they had to refer to head office to authorise this repair?! So they see this as a favor to me? a brand new tablet still in the wrapper going through a repairing procedure under warranty! Gosh!

What really annoyed me is they could have just admitted their lack of QC on the product and address the issue on my first visit, be it a 1 to 1 exchange or repairing. Instead, they brought up dead pixel policies trying to shooh me off. The dead pixel policy doesn't make much sense either, it may apply to monitors with size of 24", 27" etc, but a 7" screen shouldn't share the same policy of 5 dead pixels. I can form a letter with 5 pixels! If I bought a smart watch that has less than 2" screen does the 5 pixels policy still applies? What's up with these people's brains?

Now I have spent over 500 bucks, didn't' get to use the tablet right away and had to go through all these hassle visiting Challenger and Asus several times, wasted me so much time and effort. If it comes back with more issues, I sure will write an email to Google.

All in all, I'm utterly disappointed with the way Challenger and Asus handle lemons. To all the consumers out there, ask to open up what ever you buy to check before you pay!

Nexus 7 2012

Ahhhh.

DIY replacement of LCD + Digitizer for my broken screen and it didn't work. Couldn't get it switch on after replacing. No idea what's the problem. :s11:

My broken screen was working fine other than top half not responsive.

Anyone are throwing away their broken screen Nexus willing to give me to experiment? Hahha. Sadded. :(

My Nexus 7 3rd day had 1 line across the screen and took 2 weeks to repair. Somehow overall i'm not really happy with the quality of it. I think while ASUS make good mobo and graphics card, the other stuff are just not there. Will steer clear of their products from now on except the for the 2.

Got a private message asking how it goes.

After understanding my Nexus 7 a bit more, I found out that the video cable spoiled. I ordered it online and managed to fix it!

And I just got the Android 4.4.4 update. Way to go!

I have a Note 10.1 2014 which I bought for work purpose last year. Ever since I stopped using for work purpose, I stopped carrying out of my house. It's too heavy to use it while commuting around. (how I wish I could trade for a surface pro 3).

Nexus 7 2012 weighs about 350g which I think is good to hold for at least 10mins without any hand sore. I think newer version weigh even lesser. I like typing with two hands while holding portrait, feels just right. And Google product gets latest Android update! That's the best, no matter how old is the product.

The recent Galaxy Tab S 8.4 seems to be really awesome though, but not sure if it can be held with one hand.

What i meant was did you actually get 32gb as advertised?

Like my note 3, it was 32gb but after the stock apps were in installed, i get about 29gb++ not 32 gb.

Those default apps actually took away the space as a result i dont get 32 gb.

I'm sure the default apps and the os will eat up few gb away. But since it runs in Android stock, it will take up much lesser compared to those with additional interface installed, eg HTC sense.
