Found it rather strange that Google did not release Android 12 images with the launch of Android 12, a first. Rather they published the AOSP and will follow up in a manner of weeks.

At this rate, it looks like some Chinese phones will be first to market Android 12, rather than Google's own product line - this on top of all the customisations they have to do. Very puzzling action on Google's part.

They just took away a major reason for customers to support their Pixel line - if Google can't even support it promptly and properly, then why should we?
We shall see, IIRC, no other phone has even beaten a Pixel to a new Android version launch.
Given the amount of customizations they need to do, very unlikely.

Looks like they have two less days to do that now, since Oppo has also announced their Android 12 release for 11 October.

https://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/tec...-october-launch-commits-major-android-updates
Also reported by many other news outlets like Techradar
https://www.techradar.com/uk/news/coloros-12-based-on-android-12-to-be-announced-on-october-11
This will be more than a week before the Pixel 6 launch. So either Google spoil their own Pixel 6 event by releasing Android 12, or they let the Chinese OEMs spoil their party completely. Either way, the OEM Android 12 skins will come at least a week before the Pixel 6 launch. Not good for Google either way.

OPPO announcing doesn't means push immediately :s13:
You did click on the links and read the articles right?

"ColorOS 12 will be available on the Oppo Find X3 at launch" The Find X3 is a phone that is already in circulation, so that says the OS will be released for that phone on that day. Likewise for the earlier announcement on the Realme GT getting RealmeUI 3.0 (based on ColorOS12, which is built on Android 12). You can expect to see more of the phones under BBK's stable (Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus, Realme and iQOO) to follow suit.

First to market the latest OS has a strong psychological advantage when it comes to consumers. But more importantly, if those Chinese phones beat Google to the market with Google's very own OS, and people know that they also need additional time and effort to skin it and all, it reflects really badly on Google themselves - already the announcement shows us in-house issues. It sends the message that Google does not want to prioritise support on its own phones, which it does not need to skin or customise unlike other OEMs. Why would a consumer continue to buy Google Pixels if they can't get the latest updates/OS before other Chinese phones which are cheaper and better spec'd?

If the reason to hold back was, as cited by @kakaBoBo earlier, to give the Pixel 6 some kind of "new flavour" feel, then letting two competitors (cos they are different business entities even though they are owned by the same umbrella corporation) steal that thunder is worse than letting their own Pixels do it.
