Recommend Joe and dough too. Highlander at 12 and j&d at 15 per pack. Both are also more economical for better testing

Joe and dough can be bought online or need to buy from the shop?

I think I bought from tiong hoe at 14.
Nylon is better imo, the tuakong guy may wanna try.

Actually I don't know what these special baskets for.
Make it easier? Thought someone said before it is more challenging.

I haven't had issues with channelling, nor my 10 over staffs at my office.
Nor my maid or my 80+ yo grandpa at home.

Your 80+ grandpa can pull the Strega?

I tried some winning barista from maruma coffee. Indeed nice. Not dont have, just not easy to find and alot more rare than you would find in singapore. Like I observed, they are alot more into brewed coffee rather than espresso based ones. So maybe an espresso machine from Japan will take a long time.

Sent from LGE LG-H990 using GAGT

Their coffees are delicate and balanced. Hopefully it's a matter of time before they could come up with an espresso machine and start a new trend there.

Why not, my grandpa is an Eurasian, was a sailor and not a small man.
No dementia, no illness, no trembling hands.
You only need to pull down about 30 degrees, use momentum and body weight to pull the rest.

Yes, that's the correct way. He must be a very fit dude. Just remember to bend the knees like Jim's video.

Try vst baskets with light roasted coffee.

It's the cheapest way to make your coffee taste better.

If you already like the coffee the way it us and don't wish to try to improve it then don't bother.

I felt a difference when I used the IMS basket, but not huge. But what made the significance was the filter. The stock one did not have as good water distribution as compared to the IMS one.

Also, IMS basket made the flow alot faster. So I had to recalibrate.

Whether too fine or not depends on flow rate. I find clumps not really a problem because they crumble easily. Could be static just holding them together.

20 secs seems too fast. Use weight for yield instead of volume. They 15g dose 30g yield in about 25-30 secs. Try with better coffee now. Use highlander. I find their Blend the most forgiving.

getting 30ml yield with 15g dose but flow rate still fast at 13secs
Will continue to grind finer
my ikea beans almost gone. will order Highligher or from CSH. The latter told me they dun do dark roast. All their beans are medium roasted

I tink u can stop trying with ikea beans, it won't work cause the beans really cmi.

Since it's flowing too fast, don't have the body and you are trying to finish the bag. Just whack a lot of powder in. Kill three birds with one stone.

Increase to 20 to 22g.

Sounds like typical stale dark roasted beans. Agree with testerjp, change to the few recommended beans.

Anyway, has anyone actually tried using a moka pot? I am curious how it would taste.

i have a bialetti moka express. its the simple version without the valve.

I find it works best with dark roasted coffee. Definitely not as thick as an espresso but richer than filter brews.

With light roasted beans it can be sourish cos it brews very fast.

I guess some people like it for its simplicity but i prefer pourover or espresso. easier to control variables.

Ooh.. Better with dark roasts.. But their portion for 1 not really for 1 right? Cause only like 60ml for 1 portion? I am looking at the brikka.

Thanks for sharing anyway :)

Remember trying Moka pot during uni days. Bought from Takashimaya.
Whether with light or dark, it just turn flat and bitter. I think because it's using boiling water. Kopi gao taste better.

In the end used a Nespresso before I upgraded to my current set up.

If you want to have a filtered drink, Chemex maybe better but it's imo more time wasting and troublesome than making espresso with my present machine.
My dad likes a long cup, i usually pull a lungo for them.
