Nespresso and such auto are cannot maintain, not easier to maintain.
Before I discard my old Nespresso machine, I did a visual inspection and realised that it had years of coffee oil accumulated in the brewing chamber and the nozzle where coffee comes out. It was mouldy and the layers of accumulated oil are probably rancid.
The water is heated by passing through a block of aluminium to heat up. Nespresso always ask users to descale and I did, but I believe that this descaling which involves a high concentration of acid, also strips the metal to start leaching. The capsule's shell and the lid are also aluminium. Coffee is acidic and acid leaches aluminium Moreover, it's at a pressurized and hot condition.
My mom drank Nespresso since it debuts 10+ years ago, at her 50s she was already at late stage of Alzheimer's disease. I don't know is the aluminium part of the cause but we avoid aluminium cookware nowadays. She had more or less stabilised and her Alzheimer disease is not as aggressive, but still at a late stage, bedridden. Doctor certified all 5 basic actions can't be done.
I always wonder if I did not buy that nespresso machine for her, would she be better today.
