I read up a bit and most of the angmo said stump is cheap and good.

Stumptown is one of the large 3rd wave cafes who became very successful besides intelligentsia and blue bottle.

I think H/B has a thread on the espresso blends to try in 2013 or something.

I envy you..Have fun!

I find their coffee is a little overburnt.
As hype as our bubble tea.

Intelligentsia is better, and no point buying the coffee back.

The store manager told me by the time i bring it back after a week, the coffee mostly oxidise already.

I'm trying to get it the last few days before I leave to SG.

I'm trying to get it the last few days before I leave to SG.

my square mile red brick espresso is now 17 days post roast and I still find it to be fantastic. I would even dare say its tastes better. Perhaps because its a light roast and i've found a sweet spot with the brewing parameters.

been trying to order some blends from US roasters but shipping is crazy. cheapest is 50 usd. I only paid 10 pounds for UK shipping from square mile.

Whether intelligentsia, stumptown, red bird, blue bottle is better or worse then our local roasters or european stuff i think its good to give it a try for personal experience and discovery on what constitutes a good espresso.

Blue bottle! I think intelligentsia also has a cafe in NYC. See if u can get your hands on the black cat espresso. I've never tired it before but it's pretty reputable.

If u can join a 1 day workshop or cupping class would also be great.

Pls do share your experience when u return.

I would recommend those 2 + Stumptown as well.

Blue Bottle's sipon bars are legendary, do give it a try.

Cafe too many to choose. It's hard to try them all I only reply on reviews.

FWIW, dropped by the Gaggia counter at Taka during lunch. The Gaggia classic is selling at $599, option to purchase the Gaggia MDF grinder at $299. Non-pressurized basket additional $18 (not sure if I heard wrongly).

Had this, repaired twice in a year.

I suggest don't waste your money.

It's very unreliable in frothing and the extraction very inconsistent.
Consider yourself lucky if 2-3/10 extracts ok

Maybe this was the best and most recommended machine 30 years ago.

30 years later.. :vijayadmin:

Haha true, espresso is expensive business.

Gaggia = Cheap, but small boiler and weak steam power
Silva = Slightly better, but 2x more expensive and finicky temperature
Expobar = 3x more expensive than the Gaggia

Hmm I don't think I will consider Gaggia.
Sure not easy nor reliable to use.
I suspect the breakdown rate is high cause people smash it on the floor after frustration.

Expobar Pulsar which is a commercial heat exchanger with pre infusion at $1398 plus Bezzera on demand grinder $499. Total $18xx.

Compare Silva which is a simple home single boiler.
Silva. Plus on demand grinder rocky $1600.

I will choose heat exchanger.

if you are just making espresso i think the gaggia classic is fine provided you are willing to temp surf and be consistent with your routine. I don't think its good for milk drinks also because of the panarello which i don't think can be removed.

otherwise just save for a silvia!
