I just got a used Rancillio Silva v2 but it doesn't seem to be working right. When I grind on finest setting on Hario hand grinder the shot barely flows through (only collect like 5 drops after 1min.

Any advise from silva users please? Anywhere to service this machine in Singapore? :o

[To add on, when i grind on the next lower setting, the shot flows through quite effortlessly but barely any crema. :(]

machine should be OK. upgrade grinder and get fresh coffee, try the former first.

yup the grinder is suspect. The settings are too wide and the grounds are too inconsistent. do you weight your dose too? you can try to lower the dose a bit. seems kickstarter has a few handgrinder projects but i'll wait out first until there are 1st impressions from users. the comandante mark I didn't turn out so well.

For silvia you can try calling spinelli to see if they can service yours for a fee or just try other speciality coffee suppliers to see if their techs are willing to service the silvia although they may not be the authorised distributor. The layout is quite simple and the parts are easily available online.

Any value for money recommendation to go with the silva?

Some crowdfunding projects:
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-revolutionary-rok-coffee-grinder
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/handground/precision-coffee-grinder-better-grind-more-flavor

seems value for money but i guess best to wait for some reviews first. Quality control and durability is important.

Can try out, haus/feldgrinds too if you don't mind long lead time and non-existent customer service. $200 for one grinder but the grinder is damn solid and consistent. I can't really tell the difference in grind quality between it and my robur class hg one.

Orphanespresso Lido2/3 and maybe a pharos is a good bet too. A few forumers here are using them.

If you want motorised can try a lelit. Highlander carries them chikyblink used to have one.

What do you guys think of this website?
Home Coffee Roasters
I added the Behmor to cart, until the point of keying in my credit details, but there seems to be no shipping charges added to my bill. I've used the 'contact us' to ask them about this 2 days ago but no replies yet. Should I go ahead and just whack?

buying a grinder isn't all about the burr sizes/types or grind quality. Sure, they're important but the overall process of getting the grounds out, making sure that they fall evenly into the basket, redistribution if needed, etc, are just as important imo.

the grinder which assist you in making the best espresso in the least amount of steps is the best grinder for you. often, that grinder will cost a kidney or a limp, and compromises have to be made.
in short, spend as much as you can on grinders.

did you get the super caimano? how's the distribution in the basket?

I agree getting the grounds out is important. The pharos could be improved on that!

Sharing my new hoot. Illy Artist collection espresso cups. THe design on the saucer must be view from the reflection on the cups to see clearly. Pretty cool i think.

I'm still thinking on whether to spend more money on the roaster first. decisions decisions decisions.....

the Pharos is indeed a PITA to get the grounds out. the frustrating thing is, I actually prefer shots from the Pharos over the HG One.

nice cup! is the exterior chrome?
you seem like a big tiger fan
