Gpu uplorry, need upgrade suggestions

Radeon VII and RTX2080 are overkill for the 1080p resolution that you are playing at and Sims 3. And Sims 3 is also not a very well optimized game.

You should be looking at RTX2060 or RTX2070 instead. But as I mentioned before, if you really want to spend $1K on a video card for gaming, then RTX2080 is the better bang for the buck. You also have to check whether your power supply can support Radeon VII as it is more power hungry.

Ohh i see yup but i also play shooters like far cry, bf etc and project cars. Maybe can use extra vram/speed from the R7 to brute force the sims 3unoptimisation? Since even 8gb cards like the rx580 lagged and choked while playing at 1080P with mods. Hence im worried about going with 2080 as it more ex and only 8gb vram. Not sure if sims 3 is cpu/gpu bound though. Have a 1800x as a cpu so i dont think is cpu or sys ram?

At 1080p, your 1800x is probably the bottleneck since it is unlikely for you to be GPU limited with a RX 580, much less a Vega 7. Sims 3 is quite an old title and unlikely to be optimised for anything more than 4 cores. A fast core will probably benefit it more.

but cpu still pretty new and 8 cores right? As i just upgrade only recently Meaning if want to improve playability need to improve clock speed of 1800x or ram?

see if your cpu and memory kit can reach 2933~3200 bah

So far have done dram oc yet but can reach 4.2-4.3 for 1800x last i tested in 17. Dram wise iirc about 2400 dud to initial AMP incompatibilty

Need to bios update and repaste again see if can get 4.4 and 3200 respectively.

Just left 1 burning qn though. R7 or RTX? Scared Vram no enough for sims 3. Is it cpu bound?

imho, for a game like sims 3 - idgaf about pc performance at all as long as 60fps is maintained at not max warp game speed since..

Limiting the game to only 60fps will increase game performance dramatically. The reason this being is that the engine The Sims 3 runs on is optomized for 60fps and under so limiting the fps to 60 or under will improve the games overall performance.

if you're modding and ryzen chokes, your only recourse is to go 6600k/7600k/8350k and o/c it to 5ghz+ along with high memory overclock bah

before that though, you might want to give step 4 a try.

Ah i see thanks. Its like choke or stutter. Almost unplayable like less than 10 fps everytime with mods Cant even maintain 60fps. Take also long to load games. Since gpu mati will try this on new gpu. But not surw what gpu to buy

Intel has IPC and clock speed lead which many games like. A 8700K/9700K@5Ghz easily beats my 2700X@4.2Ghx with tuned DRAM
