For the scratch mark, i believe after applying the primer and the paint they should be not be visible any longer. (Some of my were not visible after just applying a coat of paint.

Just wondering if you are spraying too much on each piece? I'm currently using spray cans too but my 100ml cans could normal last between 2-3 models.

yea, the scratch marks don't appear when painted. However, if u dun paint...?

I highly doubt. It is a very thin coat, and i paint appox 40+ parts on a light coat(white primer can still be seen). 2-3 model??? SHARE WITH ME HOW YOU DO IT *kowtow*

Hmm, if you don't paint i would say to just even out the sanding with the finest sandpaper on the whole part. Then the difference won't be there. But doing that kind of dulls the piece. Another way maybe to apply a layer of flat top coat (never tried with gloss so i don't know if it works), it may cover the scratches if they are not very obvious.

On the no. of models per can of spray, guess it depends on the amount each model use. I spray a light coat on the parts using either a crocodile clip or satay stick using quick short burst from left to right. I could use the spray that got on the satay stick as a gauge as to how much paint on onto the parts sometimes.

My WIPs:D

As u can see, all is half completed. I screwed up the paint for enact, and after assembly, all the parts refused to stick together. It took me 10mins to get the enact upright... The rapheal is left on hiatus. I just ran out of paint and am hesitating to buy another can... 8.80 for a 100ml can is a ripoff. Zabanya was snapbuilt, trying to build as fast as possible. Took me 2hrs to get this far.

I have a question: when sanding nubs, i use 400, 600 and 1000 grit to sand. However, after using all three, i still have scratch marks on the parts. The colour also looks dull after sanding. Is there a way of fixing that?

thanks:D

Get ab, save u more money in e long run.
If possible, attend some basic ab course before u decide to commit to ab

How do u cleanly remove nubs without sanding? i try to use a design/craft knife and ALWAYS end up digging a hole.

you could try keith's airbrush at airbrush.sg??? they have a fine range of compressors, that are quite cheap and good. I personally use his compressor with airtank along with his OEM airbrush(my first airbrush) for spraying primers. While i use hobbymate or iwata for other spraying.......... I think you can start from there.

I also have some model manuals at sggs, you can go dl and take a look, its in chinese btw

eh..at the rate he is using spraycans.. imho, think he might be better off getting a ab (provided he attend some ab course to see if he likes it anot first and weighting all other factors).

so far, those who has been using ab, dun think they had ever mentioned they wan to revert back to spraycanning cos ab can do much more compared to spraycanning.

but of cos, if only doing a few kits, will be more economical to use spraycans.

my 2 cents

After polish, i'll clip the parts, and use cotton bud, under strong light, and rub away any finger prints, and let it dry till next day

hand painting is quite hard... need steady hands, and easy to get brush marks and uneven paint.

but the good thing is that it is super cheap, compared to ab or spraycan. so u can just try try and see if it hand painting suits u.

i started with hand painting, then moved on to ab. but i still hand paint certain parts that are hard to mask coz my masking skills cannot make it =:p

Whats the difference between enamel and acrylic? I know that enamel is "stronger" and needs a thinner to remove, but what is the reason you would use one over the other?

recommends acrylic or oils for handpainting. its easier and less volatile than lacquer. enamel is slow drying therefore smoother finish if you let it set. acrylics if artist grade are very smooth and quick drying. i recommend daler rowney from artfriend or lifecolour from mws

personally i use lifecolours for handpaint and enamels for weathering.

Ivory white is white + brown + yellow...

can use the sail colour by mr hobby or buff for tamiya and add to white

now i am trying out diff blends of yellow white and brown. white use until no more liao so today can only test colours.

5ml white with 1 drop of yellow seems ok. 2 drops seems abit too yellow.

my aim is for it to look like the pic i posted above.
