Just a quick check, are the Hakone Tozan bus 1 way directional or dual way directional?

For eg, Hakone-Yumoto to Kami tonasawa, can i take the same bus back to Hakone-Yumoto?

AFAIK, it is 2 directions, that's why we can opt to tour Hakone using the clockwise or anticlockwise direction.

You can travel from Hakone Yumoto to Kami Tonosawa (I assume it is Tonosawa Ichinoyu that you are going?), and then back to Hakone Yumoto by taking the bus in the opposite direction.

Yeah, i selected the Ichinoyu Honkan ryokan for my stay.

Also, from motohakone to hakone-yumoto, taking bus route R - express should be the best and fastest?

I did the trip, a short report.
1)The romance car panorama view- not very much different from ordinary seats unless you sit in the first 2 rows, i could only get the 3rd or 4th row.
The scenery was also nothing exciting, dozed off also.

Where is it are you are supposed to see Mount Fuji? Near Odawara I presume?
I didn't see it. It was raining and it's full of fog.
Odawakuni was like silent hill. It's all white.

2)Doing clockwise was much less crowded. The opposite train i saw about 80% utilisation whereas it was about 10-15% on my side. I actually thought there might be reverse psychology - everyone would be doing clockwise thinking otherwise.

If u started clockwise, means cruise - ropeway - cablecar - train to Hakone yumoto? For the cruise, since its 1 direction, you started from Hakone-machi or Moto-Hakone?

Yes, the clockwise route was what you stated.
I took the pirate ship from Hakone-Machi.

I dropped off at the bus-stop nearest to Hakone Shrine, visited there which is the most north point and then i just walked south along the coast of Ashinoko, passing by MotoHakone and i ended my walk at where the HakoneMachi ferry terminal was.

So, you didnt bother about Moto-Hakone? Coz i dun see much things there to visit other than the old checkpoint. There seems to be slightly more things/life at Hakone Machi though.

I passed by there. Surrounding have a few shops, bus stop and the ferry terminal. Otherwise nothing there. The Tokaido checkpoint is further down in between hakone machi and motohakone but closer to the former.
Yes because Hakonemachi is a town.

I did the clockwise direction on my 2nd trip and found it slightly less crowded than the anti clockwise direction in my first trip cos most tour groups go by the anti clockwise direction.

Also if you didnt read up much on it and when you reach Hakone Yumoto station, you will tend to do the anti clockwise direction as the Hakone Tozan train is just there, unlike the clockwise direction which you need to cross the road and look for the bus.

On my second visit I wanted to visit the tori gate which I missed on my first trip.
So I went to Moto Hakone.
It was beautiful and there was a Q there to take turns to take pictures.
On a fine day, Mt Fuji should be in full view along Lake Ashi.
I ate at a nearby restaurant called Ashi no Ko Chaya.
Can see the Viking ship from the restaurant.

Thanks for the info. I had did some research including what buses to take from each point to point with estimated duration and to my hotel. Just that i have to check in at my hotel by 6pm (i think) to make it for the 7pm dinner. I am trying to organise it as much as possible so that i wun miss it, since i paid for it le.

Presuming i leave Shinjuku early means i will eat a light breakfast in the train. Lunch time will either be at Moto-Hakone, Souzan or Gora station. If got time, i will explore a little at Hakone-Yumoto to stock up for the night, if not leave the exploration till next day after check out.

If you have time, do visit Mishima skywalk.
I missed it in my previous trips there.
Sigh, didn't know about it until after the trip.

Looks interesting although im not sure if my parents would dare to cross with me. Seems like i need take Route N and can just stop at Mishima Skywalk stop rather than Mishima station. Seems to be a 20 mins ride.

I think it should be relatively not scary cos it is wide.
I heard they bring dogs there for walks.
If ppl can walk their dogs there then it should be rather stable.

This was my timing for this trip, it was raining the whole duration i was there. I did some jogging at ashino lake to meet the timing so factor that in.

7am Depart Shinjuku
8.27am Arrive at Hakone Yumoto
8.38am Depart via bus from Hakone Yumoto
9.16am reach Lake Ashino
9.24am reach Hakone Jinja
10.30am reach Hakonemachi
10.40am boarded pirate ship, it went to Motohakone next
11.14am reached Togendai
11.40am reached Owakudani - it's all white, like silent hill, can't see anything. Go there is to smell sulphur and eat black eggs only.
12.27pm Depart Sou-unzan
12:54pm Gora-Koen (the fountain was closed)
1.25 pm Left Gora
2.10pm approx, Hakone Yumoto

I think i can squeeze in a museum or that Mishima Skywalk if i wanted to all in 1 day.

Bad weather partially ruined ur trip!
I had leisurely breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea, so I completed my trip at 5pm.

Thanks for sharing your pics. The small surrounding restaurants really need business from visitors like you. Gora Koen also, the highlight should be enjoying the french architecture and garden while sipping tea. I probably am going to be forced to go back again due to the thick fog at Owakudani.

Nice photos. Hakone pass should have an option for longer stays but nothing much to do after 6pm. Moto Hakone feels like a ghost town with only Lawson lit up. When did you visit?
