Can anybody recommend nice hotels? Noticed seems not so many “branded”
Hotels in Hanoi

for international chains, can try sofitel legend metropole.

if you don't mind local chains, Hanoi La Siesta Hotel Trendy and O'Gallery Premier Hotel & Spa are popular.

can't agree more!
maybe coz more go hcmc bah...

looking for recommendation for the following:
1. makan places esp bun cha
2. massage places
3. coffee place to people watch
4. must-buy from hanoi e.g. snacks etc

TIA!

1. refer to my post in the vietnam thread
i had my bun cha at hanoi food culture, highly recommend this place.

other bun cha places,
- Bún chả Hương Liên (24 Lê Văn Hưu, Phan Chu Trinh, Hai Bà Trưng) - obama ate there before
- Bun Cha Ta Hanoi (21 Nguyễn Hữu Huân, Lý Thái Tổ, Hoàn Kiếm)

2. their massage is cheap but not really great i think. maybe go to the one in your hotel.

3. i don't really feel they have this sort of place. i wanted to check out this nice cafe called O'Douceurs (91 Trần Hưng Đạo, Cửa Nam, Hoàn Kiếm) but didn't have time.

4. go to intimex, it's a supermarket chain, got this brand of dried fruit chips. can buy at airport departure gate area too (not outside public area, outside is very expensive).

Don't forget to take a picture of one of the last standing statues of Lenin. Yes! Lenin! Everywhere in Eastern Europe all kenna pulled down but not this one. It is near the Flag Tower of Hanoi.

CNY or TET holiday is a super big festival in vietnam, like China.
The streets in major cities like hcmc n Hanoi are exceptionally empty and quiet during this period

Thanks in that case I'll avoid that period
Depends on you. Some like to travel to places for holiday like Vietnam, China, Taiwan, HK, Malaysia during CNY period

And experience a different CNY from SG

Hotels in Hanoi
What's your budget?

There are branded hotels like Pan pacific, Novotel, Somerset, Intercon, Westin, Lotte, Hilton, Hyatt, Pullman, Sofitel etc

From my own experiencd, some of these "branded" hotels are not worth paying the extra $$$

Some of The rooms, service, breakfast quality are just 3-star hotel level

I would strongly advise you to check out customers reviews from Agoda, Expedia, Tripadvisor etc so that you can make a more informed decision

JW Marriott Hanoi

When we visited Hanoi a few years back, took the opportunity to stay at the JW Marriott, which we couldn't afford to stay in Singapore.

Four of us in a Club room, which was fun.

The Executive Lounge was very nice.

Only in Vietnam, you can see women in Ao Dai's riding the motobike.

on the contrary, when i arrived in hanoi just after the first day of tet, the streets were filled with people. due to the week long public holiday, malls, banks and many places were shutdown for full 7 days. many people from the countryside streamed into the city and there were huge crowds at van mieu, hoan kiem lake, temples and other tourist sites. not a very pleasant experience.

My impression of Vietnam Food is tasteless.

I tried in Singapore and does not really like it.

Thinking of making my first solo trip there too.
