A society cannot function if you have zero expectations on others cos zero expectations means people will do things anyway they like since there is no expectations which can lead to disastrous consequences

So if you have zero expectations and you die a fiery death , you will should have zero blame on the electrician who short circuited and killed everyone

It's one thing if you put the person yourself up on pedestal
Its another if person praises himself till he's very good

For example if you always treat A to meals you will.be disappointed if you lack say $5 to.pay for something and A straight out doesn't help or if it's a non monetary issue and A can help but he refuses to.

Well , did A put himself out as someone you can rely on or is A the sort.of decent folk who Will help

The real nice or bad person always just minority, many just in between. We might be shite people in others' eyes too. Hence i said no expectation no disappointment, not because of others are shite, because we nid to understand how human nature work.

The example you giving, properly you think the A should return favour because you always treat A a meal, i think this is a wishful thinking. You might say the A don't have EQ or buay zi dong, but why the A should do it when you ownself want to treat A? To exert the question further abit, how good the relationship between you and A? Unless the A doing the thing that you expected toward people who have higher status or others who are not that wealthy, then you might need to think what is your position in A's mind and move on regardless.
