Make sure you are connecting to HDMI Port 2 labelled ARC.
Try getting a better cable like Elecom 4K cable (From Challenger
and tec.)

If still cannot, I suggest do a factory reset on your TV.

I have 2 HDMI cables at the moment:

not sure what type they are...
on the cable itself 1 put: hi-speed hdmi cable with ethernet, another 1 put: CSA LL84201-F4 CMG FT4 V10143.

Both also cannot work, I will get another HDMI cable 2.0 arc compatible to try again.
If still cannot, I will unplug all connections + factory reset <- this one is to tv right?

Yes if not have to call LG for support.
Cuz their manual I have vet though but very vague.
It did not state anything about settings or anything about HDMI ARC
and etc. or I may have missed something.

Some TV the HDMI need to set in order for ARC to work.
LG wise I am not sure.

There's a lot of HDMI voodoo, and some have never resolved it.
Try altering the sequence in which you switch on the devices.

new hdmi 2.0 cable arrived, tried and failed
off the switch of tv and soundbar before switching on again after a while, tried and still failed
removed the accessories, tried and still failed

later at night trying factory reset, if still fail... maybe call LG

Sorry but a silly question: which HDMI port on the soundbar did you connect the HDMI cable to...?

I know this is confusing but on the soundbar, cable should be connected to HDMI IN port... If connected to the other port, I suspect the audio signal will be bounced between TV & Soundbar without playing the audio... I hope this is the issue & good luck!

Haha, eflash... So it's a case of HDMI cable not fully / properly plugged into the soundbar's HDMI port!! Guess 2 wrongs make 1 right... =D

I suggested trying HDMI IN port, based on the perspective of sending TV audio signal to the soundbar & also assumed the TV is connected to a Starhub / FTA Digital set-top box... But things get complex when soundbar function control via ARC comes into play.

Anyway, at least it now works... Congrats & have fun!

worked twice~
I tested it works once...

then I connected everything back (popsical stuff, Ethernet cable and portable hdd), I tested and it still works....

husband returned home, I was so excited telling him abt it and wanted to show him it works... it didn't work

I tried again and again... all failed.
I reset to factory settings.

Didn't work, or I should say it didn't work fully. So no sound for HDMI, Simplink was on and I disconnect HDMI, theoretically speaking, TV should auto-switch to internal speakers but it didn't.

The factory settings had this magic control which I select yamaha. Now I could control the soundbar with TV remote with HDMI or optical connection, or so I thought when I tested it. Gave up on HDMI arc, took out HDMI cable, soundbar now remain connected via optical. I cannot power off the soundbar when turning off the tv with tv remote, but I can adjust volume, mute with TV remote.

I re-attached the HDMI cable. Turn on TV, soundbar doesn't turn on, but turn off, both can be turned off via TV remote. >.<

I am having the same problem as you. Thought it would be an easy and straight forward setup but ended up spending hours to find a way to fix it. Grrr.

I will keep an eye on this post and hoprfully we can find a way to fix it.

Same here..bought LG tv recently and connected the tv to my existing sony home theater thru ARC...

Sometime works sometime not...setting on tv already put HDMI ARC...

I bought ver 2.0 which supports ARC and faster than ver 1.4, worked only 2 times... if it is just that it didn't power on/off at the same time or I cannot control the volume (that can be solved via magic control configuration) but if only HDMI cable is plug in (both the arc ports), the sound doesn't come out which is the most troubling bit.

right now, both HDMI arc and optical are connected. By accident, when I pressed the button "recent" with the home logo, tv, soundbar and popsical all power on at the same time. If I used tv power on button, only tv power on. When I press "power off", all power off at the same time. At least the volume control is solved by using magic control such that even using optical cable, it works with one control. Oh, if optical is plug in only, power doesn't on and off with tv so maybe the HDMI arc works for the power issue, but not the sound transmission.

Maybe I should try removing the optical cable and try the "recent" button later.

Have not called the yamaha helpdesk yet because husband was concerned abt being pushed around since didn't buy both LG, so integration is not seamless (worried that if called yamaha, yamaha said LG tv problem, please call LG then LG said is yamaha soundbar problem...)

Typical, ping pong culture.
That is why some say, TV and brand must be the same.
If the Soundbar cannot work than they cannot push to anyone else. LOL!
Some brands like Sony Soundbar which I am using, the HDMI ARC
works fine even with older TV sets.

Try to talk to them, if cannot I suggest to you change the Yamaha Soundbar to something else maybe Sony Soundbar instead.
Lemon Law is 6 months, any issues can revert back to the retailer
or distributor.

Such issue will service the unit resolve the issue? To me I doubt so cuz HDMI ARC for certain brands audio equipment is voodoo.
Some can work some cannot.

Why is it so? No one knows.

I have 3 HDMI on my LG TV.

HDMI 1 = Android TV box
HDMI 2 ARC = Sound bar
HDMI 3 = Another Android TV box

When I leave the plug connected in HDMI 3. The ARC doesn't work. But the moment I disconnect HDMI 3. Everything works perfectly.

I have tried changing the HDMI cable, doesn't help.

I have tried using another similar Android body on HDMI 3, same problem persist

Any one has any solution?

Update: took out optical cable today.
sound still works with hdmi cable... husband said must be I dunno how to press the remote control =.= in any case, we tried >5 times with long intervals in between and it still works. Conclusion: my husband got lucky fingers... we shall monitor the situation, if one month later still works, should be fine... although not sure why suddenly works.

Well I did play with the remote control, trying out the press home button to on, then also press the central scroll button etc to my parents, power on button flashing red at some point in time... work twice then failed then keep playing with it... so maybe can try that sequence until cannot work, then husband use power button and it works

Now press the remote control "power" button can on and off both tv and soundbar, but the popsical is switched off as of now (not sure if switching on will affect).
