Try your DIY antenna at a less than ideal location and see if it still works?

Of course cannot lah. Testing must be done to locate the best location within the household. :o
Well that may the reason why a simple device like that works...
It's not the antenna, but the location of the TV.

Well, I reckon that the design of the antenna is probably that of the directional antenna instead of omnidirectional.

Anyway I'm using such an antenna to receive HD5 currently. :o

See here. I can never get the HD5 signal using the powered antenna. I tried all the location around my pc.
But the moment I plug the diy antenna, dump it on the wall, it immediately show up.

Thanks for sharing bro.
But it's still your home...
So we don't know if it works or it's just because your location is excellent..

Actually it's a combination of both.

First of course is the location.

But the design of the DIY antenna is also optimised to receive a good signal at a good location, from what I read. :o

sorry newbie question. if i connect directly from the SCV cable point to my TV using an analogue RF cable, any issue receiving Mediacorp free to air channels? It's not essential to get HD...just the basic TV.

reason for asking is that i might want to cancel Starhub TV subscription since i hardly watch.

Ya FTA local channels no issue and currently receive RTM1 via SCV point also I would confirm your TV has an analog tuner though just to be safe in your shoes ;)

I have the above. On my old house, I can get HD5. On my new house, I can only get SD 5,8,CNA.

My DIY antenna is better though.

Thanks for the update. When you mentioned the starhub technician claimed:

due to signal interference from the environment

I knew he was likely to be shirking his responsibility. Under Singapore's strict control regimen, it is almost impossible to obtain equipment powerful enough to cause interference to tv reception, unless the interference comes from nearby countries. But then, if that is the case, the whole island will experience the same inteference. Alternatively, there is a very small chance of DIYer in your block doing some unauthorised alteration to his home cable network which injected the inteference into starhub's cable network.

Starhub's distribution network involves distribution/repeater amplifiers, splitters and line taps to adjust the final output in discrete steps to individual households. Because of long cable run, they also have equalisers to compensate for higher signal loss at the UHF end. So they need time to trouble shoot. Whatever it is, their problem is transparent to us.

If you can get more neighbours to lodge a joint complaint, the voice will be louder.

Cheers.

Hi All, thank you for sharing ideas. My TV poor reception problem is resolved today.

My wife complained again a week ago and Starhub agreed to send another technician to look at the problem. Today, a lady technician turned up and she was very hardworking, going floor by floor to check and finally, she found the problem at one of the floor and fixed it. This is the type of worker the company must employ. Unlike the previous one, just try to bluff his way out and did nothing to try the fix the problem.

IDTV kit for Notebook

Guys ;

With the transition of mediacorp to IDTV , I am looking for a kit set that is usb based with powerful enough external antenna and software that allows it to be connected to my notebbook that I can use my notebook to view , programmed record or direct record free to air TV programs that is HD and surround sound.

With that I might not need to get IDTV that helps me save some money.

Hopping to to get some feedback from expert here.

Thanks

Any DVB-T2 for PC recommended? Currently using AverMedia Dual Tuner
DVB-T PCIe card and thinking of getting the DVB-T2 version.
Antenna I am using this Daiyo EU1701
ImgHRemote.ashx

and I need to change the antenna to be DVB-T2 compatible right?
Btw is Channel U on digital already?

No need to change the antenna. DVB-T and DVB-T2 use the same UHF region... the same antenna will work.
