Tried the Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro before and felt that it is really balanced, find that the Audio Technica M50 a little too much on the highs and didn't like the clamping force. Tried the Sony MDR-1R but find that it is very muddy despite being quite comfortable to wear. Any other suggestions?

How about the AKG K551 and Sennheiser HD449? Do give them a try as well and check out this month's promotion on Stereo Promotion thread.

I currently have a shure 215 however I'm tempted to get shure 215 se which is bassier and have a shorter cable (the long one was freaking irritating). Just to ask is it possible to change the shell cos i don't like the blue.. Thanks in advance!

If not any recommendation of similar wearing style earphones with flat cable and good solid bass and clarity?

I strongly recommend the AKG551 @ $199. i bought one for my father and although i like it very much but no choice cos it was a present.. the sound is really good for this price. Only problem is the cable is very short because it was made for portable and has a volume buttons for apple players. What i did for my father is buy a pretty decent 3.5mm extension.

IM50 i feel the bass is too heavy liao.. The AKG550/551 is really solid sound with humble but impactful bass.. my description sucks but you will know what i mean once u tried it. remember to try 551 and not 550 because there is some significant difference in the areas i mentioned. 550 is way out of the budget you provided.

I say that the bass for SE215 SPE is tighter, more controlled compared to the normal SE215, that's why I chose it also over the normal ones that time. You can still check other options like Marshall Mode EQ, JVC FX-Z100 with a special price promotion of $168 (usual $299) and Audio Technica ATH-IM70. Do give them a try first so you can compare side by side.
