ts 5-6 年前 had a major life&death medical episode. ts’ outlook on life is different from everyone’s liao. :look:

I got do heart surgery before so need to eat meds. If no meds or body don't react well then mati liao lo. My philosophy is eat while can, since need to take meds anyway. Don't waste the meds and exercise.

thats exactly my thoughts too, if need take meds and it brings down the levels anyway might as well make full use of the medical science and enjoy one of the major pleasures life has to offer

TS, eat more peanuts, almond, pistachio, cashew, hazelnuts, walnuts, macadamia, walnuts.

Important is roasted and UNSWEETENED & UNSALTY.

I like to eat cheap cheap peanuts (Shandong nuts and SS garlic nuts $1.10 per pack), cashew, almond.

Pistachio very expensive, eat once a while hehe.

At home use olive oil for light cooking or soup but Groundnut or peanut oil for stir-fry cooking.

Best minimal oil is steaming and boiling soup cooking style. Steam chicken thigh or drumsticks or salmon or sardines, very tasty leh. Cook vegetables soup like cai xin or cabbage or white carrot or ABC soup very hearty leh. Use ginger + garlic + anchovies already good soup based for any veg soup.

You know some chicken rice stall like to give nice very soft cabbage or white carrot soup free ? Cook till very soup very nice.

Seaweed egg soup also 👍

Past few years when doing company health check-up already got borderline high. I thought only High then need take meds and i reduce eating un-necessary stuffs. So when reach 40 liao, the results still no change so go see doc then prescribed me low dose statin. Now results all green but not as low as TS.

🔍 Summary of Results:

TestValue (mmol/L)Interpretation
Total Cholesterol3.5✅ Desirable (Normal)
Triglycerides2.1⚠️ Desirable (Slightly elevated, near high)
HDL (Good) Cholesterol0.8❌ Low (Below desirable range)
LDL (Bad) Cholesterol1.7✅ Optimal (Ideal even for high-risk)

🧠 Interpretation & Implications:

✅ 1. Total Cholesterol (3.5 mmol/L)

  • Well within the desirable range (<5.2 mmol/L).
  • No concern here; this is a healthy overall level.

⚠️ 2. Triglycerides (2.1 mmol/L)

  • Falls in the desirable range (1.7–2.2) but is close to high (≥2.3).
  • May suggest a risk if levels continue to rise.
  • Common causes: high sugar intake, excess carbs, lack of exercise, alcohol, metabolic syndrome.

❌ 3. HDL Cholesterol (0.8 mmol/L)

  • Low HDL is a concern, as HDL helps remove excess cholesterol from arteries.
  • A low level is associated with increased cardiovascular risk.

✅ 4. LDL Cholesterol (1.7 mmol/L)

  • Well below the threshold even for very high-risk patients (<2.1).
  • This is excellent and suggests low risk from LDL itself.

🩺 Cardiovascular Risk Summary:

While total and LDL cholesterol are good, the low HDL and borderline triglycerides could increase risk for heart disease if not addressed.

💡 Recommended Actions:

  1. Increase HDL:
    • Regular aerobic exercise (e.g., brisk walking, swimming).
    • Healthy fats: nuts, seeds, avocado, olive oil.
    • Quit smoking if applicable.
    • Moderate alcohol (red wine in moderation may help HDL).
  2. Lower Triglycerides:
    • Reduce sugar and refined carbohydrates.
    • Avoid trans fats and cut back on saturated fats.
    • If overweight, aim for gradual weight loss.
    • Limit alcohol intake.
  3. Consider Rechecking:
    • Lipid panel should be rechecked in 3–6 months after lifestyle changes.
  4. Discuss with Doctor:
    • Especially due to low HDL, a doctor may evaluate for metabolic syndrome or other risk factors.

sagu suggest a regular CT angiogram screening can test if heart arteries are blocked but it is an expensive way to manage your cholesterol level and taking statins and doing blood tests is much cheaper and more efficient

#saguwisdom :vijayadmin:
Yes suggest this too, especially after 40s. Can do every 5 years. With the food nowadays, more or less heart arteries will have blockage one.
