Hello HWZers,

We’re the team from OCBC Bank, and we’re feeling privileged to be part of Singapore’s busiest forum :)

To be honest, we’ve been reading the discussion threads for some time and were keen to see how we could join in some of the conversations where our products were being discussed. It’s been valuable feedback to learn how we could better communicate about our products by reading the threads – yes, sometimes we could be clearer! But nothing beats being able to respond directly to your questions and comments. This is why we’ve decided to take the plunge into setting up an official account here.

A few of us from various parts of the bank will try to help you out whenever there are questions or clarifications needed. In case you’re worried about us trying to sell you things you don’t need or want, we don’t want to make a nuisance of ourselves either. We’re here to help, and we will resist the urge to push you products - unless you ask us. There will be threads that we start where we talk about new products or promotions that we’re offering, but we’ll take care not to hijack existing threads with irrelevant sales pitches.

While we’re happy to take in any customer service complaints or feedback here, be sure never to reveal any personal information in the discussion threads (e.g. bank account details, NRIC, phone number). Contact us via private message instead!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone here a little better. ;)

(Please be gentle)

Cheers,

The team from OCBC Bank

Hi @reflush,

The OCBC Blue Chip Investment Plan (BCIP) allows you to invest in 19 blue chip share counters, and 1 ETF in a hassle-free way.

Here are 3 key reasons why OCBC BCIP:

1) You get to choose your preferred share counters from a list of 19 quality blue chip names listed on the STI, on top of the STI ETF which is also offered by other similar plans. When you select any of these 19 blue chip share counters, you buy the actual companies’ shares. By buying the STI ETF, you purchase and own units of the ETF, which invests in a portfolio of STI stocks, instead of shares of the individual companies.

2) At 0.3% of gross investment amount or minimum S$5 per counter per transaction (inclusive of GST and SGX clearing and access fees) for buying and selling of shares through BCIP, our rates are very competitive. As a launch promotion, we have waived the minimum fee of S$5 per counter per transaction. This promotion is valid till Dec 2013. However, we will inform you 1 month prior to the end of the promotion.

3) There is no lock-in period. You get the flexibility to manage your plan through OCBC Online Banking, where you can login any time to give instructions to amend or terminate your plan, and sell your BCIP holdings.

Hope this helps!

Hello,

You can apply for the FRANK Debit Card or OCBC Yes! Debit Card – both have no annual fee charges. However, if you are eligible for a credit card and want to enjoy the best benefits for online shopping, we recommend that you get the FRANK Credit Card (annual fee waived for first two years) which gives 6% cash rebates for all online purchases. You can find out more here (FRANK by OCBC - The Brand New Way to Bank)

For BCIP, our current launch promotion waiver of the minimum S$5 fee per counter per transaction (inclusive of GST and SGX clearing and access fees) is valid till Dec 2013. However, we will inform you 1 month before the promotion ends.

Hope this helps!

Assuming that I signed up for the OCBC BCIP & selected a S$200 monthly investment. After December when the promotion ends, I will liable to pay OCBC S$5 or 0.3% per transaction? That means every month, S$5 will be deducted from the S$100 investment? Is it correct to say that the investment sum + 0.3% transaction fee will be deducted from my OCBC bank account? Will that be S$200 or S$206?

What differences is there for young investors purchasing Singapore Blue Chip Stocks from OCBC BCIP & OCBC's brokers?

Me not working from OCBC but the fee is either $5 or 0.3% whichever is higher...so from the FAQ of their website, if you invest $200, they will deduct 0.3% or $0.60 all the way till December...$200 - $0.60 is equal to $199.40 invested in a month..from January 2014, you will pay $5 fee as it is higher than $0.60..so the amount invested a month is $195, after deducting the fees..

the amount invested is the amount you set aside for the monthly investment less the fees which is $5 or 0.3% whichever is higher..the $5 minimum is waived till December this year...

I seriously feel that OCBC does not bother to look at this thread compared to most of the troll post in EDMW...Seriously OCBC, there are like 2-3 post here and you can't take e time to reply as all the questions here are genuine question..

Hi makav31i,

Yes you may sign up for BCIP. Do note that you'll need an OCBC deposit account to facilitate the GIRO payment of the BCIP monthly investment amount.

Hi chyn_no,

Yes, you have the flexibility to change your monthly investment amount with BCIP. You may give instructions to stop your monthly investments through OCBC Online Banking. Simply indicate this in the amendment form that can be found in the BCIP account page.

Whenever you are ready to continue again, you may fill in the same form to add the counter back to your existing plan. However, to fully benefit from dollar cost averaging under BCIP, invest an equal amount monthly over time, to reduce the risk of market timing.

Hi meinteel,

If you invest $200, the fee applicable is 0.3% (or $0.60 in this case) or minimum $5, whichever is higher. Once the promotion ends, the applicable fee will be $5. The amount deducted will be $200, of which $5 will be the transaction fee, and the remaining $195 will be invested into your selected share counter.

When you purchase shares through a broker, you make a one-time lump sum investment, and have to give instructions to your broker each time you want to make a purchase. For most brokers, the minimum brokerage you pay each time is $25 per trade. Through OCBC BCIP, you invest a fixed amount regularly regardless of market conditions to achieve dollar cost averaging over time. This disciplined approach of investing reduces the uncertainty and emotions of market timing.

Hi
Does BCIP offers estatement also?

Hi myhyip4me,

Currently, BCIP statements are hardcopy and mailed to you monthly. E-statements are not available for BCIP at the moment but you can view your shareholdings by logging into OCBC Internet Banking.
