Grateful only valid for those that hasn't renovate their toilets for 20/30 years lar. Toilet before HIP was much nicer than HDB renovation. Managed to opt out for master bedroom toilet but didn't pass the leakage test for common toilet. Given a choice , will opt out totally and get contractors to do. But it's my parents place, so their call. Anyway I bought private, out of this HIP crap

opt out allowed if they pass the water leak test .... where they put plasticine cover your drain and flood it with 4cm of water for 2 hours ... then go bottom floor use tissue to check any water droplet at ceiling and pipe

hip include new floor and wall tiles at toilet .... new window at toilet ...... new toilet door and frame .... hold handle 8 pieces ..... new toilet bowl and wash basin ...... new electrical line for water heater if the old one failed or unqualified ....... change 12 light switches around home
new water pipes according to what you have existing .... copper give u back copper ... plastic give u copper .......... pay extra to upgrade from copper to stainless steel ....... but the joints and tap still chrome not stainless steel

free re-installation of existing water heater , tap , toilet ceiling light socket ....... most people buy new one to take advantage of free workmanship compared to paying the shop or handyman
free installation if you have mirror , shelf brackets

existing aircon water outlet at the toilet part will be rebuilt with their new material , they don't touch the pipe inside your room

option for highly subsidized new main door and gate ..... door is $90 , gate i dunno

But the fittings HDB supply are basic and terrible. Toilet bowl and basins are of the lowest quality with very coarse porcelain and dirty within a day or two after cleaning.

If they use superior materials, the cost will be astronomical and residents will complain.

I also redid the HIP for both toilets even though it was renovated 5 years before. Can upgrade the bathroom and waterproofing. Total cost about $1000, just a tenth of the actual price.

Can sis, not many opt out, got their reason, esp just did renovation. But i must say the package offered for major hip is damn worth it
