The $238 cathay/SIA promos, are they for single person or need 2 people? If not I may just buy budget airline ticket now.

For Cathay, I remember they allow single person to go.

For SQ, most of the time need 2 to go.

Who here mentioned bringing parents huh??
Going Dec?
I suggest can wait some more (maybe until end of Aug) to see if Cathay or SIA got promo again.
most probably Cathay will have.
n try to avoid taking Jetstar to HK esp when bringing old folks.
Jetstar park very far when landing in HK, have to take those dangerous (I really find it dangerous for old folks n toddlers!) very slanting portable staircase down the plane to take a lok kok bus with v limited seats (cos mainly for standing, in order to take more passengers) to the terminal bldg.
not sure whether its the same for Scoot cos I never take before.
can't remember for Tiger cos many years didn't take.
Top up abit to take Cathay, the boarding gate will also be much much nearer (no need to take a "skytrain" within the departure area) when you are leaving.

Not only in hk, even other countries also ..
for bkk, tiger n scoot always park at the end of the end lol ...
jetstar not so bad, park e1, e2 that area, which my last time sq flight lands at

for my taipei trip by tiger, landed at b3, where cathay to hk lands, and beside is mh lol .. then another time go seoul via scoot. scoot land around b6 that area, not the end, but near to the end ....
however, budget airline, so cannot complaint liao ...
maybe they park further, is cheaper ...

Few years back when jetstar promo price was like 152 to 219, was very happy ... however, time have changed, with the promo price from 73,95,105 by jetstar, think might shift towards taking budget airline if the price is that attractive again ...

if using last time jetstar price few years ago , 152 exclude luggage checked in, might consider flying cathay already ... however, that time cathay promo price was always 268 above few years back ... now that their price getting lower ...

not sure whether its the same for Scoot cos I never take before.

Scoot no need to take lok kok bus, but because land too early and too far away from immigration counters, must walk one big round (I think literally walk the whole airport, from one end to the other end, one terminal to another terminal). Those first time there at such an early timing will be lost inside the airport.

And also, at such an early timing, the connecting trains to the immigration counters haven't even start operating. You confirm have to walk. Or wait for 1 hour++ until the trains start operating then take them to connect to the counters.

But I guarantee your luggage confirm don't know go where if you try this stunt. There are many flights arriving at HK, so if you don't collect your luggage in time, it will go elsewhere.

My suggestion - ask the customs officers there. But they not friendly. :vijayadmin:

Don't follow the crowd. Some of them go elsewhere de, not to the immigration counters.

Cathay updated their flight promos already. $238 but the return flight reaches SG 12am means next day must take leave.

It looks like there are hardly any flights out in December. 6-12, 14-22 December all have no flights out.

yes yes, lcc are very bad news in hkg. not just landing, departing also.

better have your meals before you check-in if you need to, cos for jetstar, they open their counters (at T2) rather late, then gotta clear immigration before taking the train back to T1 where the boarding gates are.

then the queues at most of the cheaper eating places are long and many ppl start queuing at the boarding gate to take the bus like one hour before the scheduled time. not much time to eat if you wanna be kiasu and queue early. actually i think enough time, don't need to go queue so early if you're not those anxious type.

Cathay has one promotion ($298) that flies out between 19 November and 18 December, but the dates are quite screwed up.

Let's say you insist on travelling on 6 December, the earliest you can fly back is 15 December.

But say if you tweak your fly date to be 1 December and returning on the 6 December, you will get this discounted price.

1 December to 6 December

6 December to 12 December (note that the earliest date you can return is 15 December)

Guys, does SQ or Cathay usually have promotions for 2nd week (10 - 20th) of December? The current price for flights during that period is about $361 - $372, so I am wondering if I should wait for promotions.

SQ promotions normally need to book 120 days ahead, roughly 4 months before.

Now it's July. You can wait and see if August/September SQ releases any promotions.
