Thanks for the photo. Very informative. We've got 5 adults, probably 3x 26 inch plus either a 24 inch or soft bag. Do u think it'll fit?

with 5 adults, think max 3x24 hard case and other soft cases may b able to fit

26in really take up space .. I always tell my group don't take 26.

For Freed, the last seat can fold up individually to the side ... with just 1 seat folded, the boot space is not that big. U can check out Honda Japan video of the car.

more comfy to get the Voxy / Noah.

Hi, looking to book a car for my second time to hokkaido, this time landing in Chitose and leaving via hakodate instead. Anyone has experience with different point return? Any difficulties or rrtnal company recommended for this arrangement?

Previously I did book via Jalan. Net with world rent a car, but it was Chitose pick and return.

Also, is driving in hakodate an issue? Am considering to return the car then use public transport for my last 2 days in hakodate or to return only when returning to airport. Thanks!

you will paying rental coy to drive back to original location, so shouldn't have any issues

Different return point will incur a fee, more than 10k yen.

Noted on this, no issue, take it as saving of savings of time to drive back to Chitose from hakodate. (though I do like driving in Hokkaido) 😂

Thanks, in my previous trip, I didn't find parking issues in saporro, Asahikawa and all other places I went, so was hoping hakodate to be the same. Maybe have to park at hotel and take public transport.

Hakkodate has excellent public transport, and walkable to most tourists places. Unless u want to venture out to like the tsutaya book shop or to the ocean view area. I returned the car upon reaching hakodate and hotel checkin and then do the BMW. Haha.

I was in Hakodate last year, stayed 7 days and had the car thoughout. Made day trips to Matsumae, Otobe, Hokuto etc and explore the surrounding areas

it depends where u r going within Hakodate

eg) Goryokaku, can park at the nearby library ( cheaper parking ) eat and park at the conveor sushi place or park at Sports Depo and walk 800m

there is free parking at some parks (Hakodate park) , and temple (eg Hachimangu)

Motomachi area is mostly paid parking

Many Hotels, parking also not free

much less car traffic compared to Sapporo, and even Asahikawa

Train tickets are not cheap now .. i chosed to drive back. If u r going for Sakura, there r some spots best with car along the way ( for early May timing )

I just note that most car rental stores at Chitose will close at 7 to 730pm range. My domestic flight will only arrive at 7.35pm. Does that mean I will not be able to rent any cars on day 1 and should plan to maybe stay in Chitose and start the rental on day 2 morning? Any one with similar experience?

my last trip in Apr2024, think my flight arrival was 630pm

stayed 1 night at the Chitose Airport Terminal hotel ( free breakfast + free Chitose Airport onsen visit )

overall not bad stay. must book early for better rates on Agoda ( some CC has 18% off )

there is another airport hotel at the International terminal side, that's more expensive

only downside staying at Airport is the entire airport closes at 10pm, so u have to be back at hotel by that time. You cannot walk around after that time.

All shops r closed by 8pm, some earlier. For dinner, also an issue. we managed to eat at Yoshinoya .. one of the ir last customers for the day

they r a couple of combinis, not sure if they r 24/7

For the Matsumae, Otobe, Hokuto areas, do you do drive to these spots within 1 day or separated over 3 different days?

can do over 2 days.

Matsumae n Otobe is quite far from Hakodate, and each other.

Matsumae + Hokuto or Otobe + Hokuto in 1 day, then another day for other location

Sakura in Hokuto is later, maybe around 1 week after Matsumae ... so in reality, timing has to be spot on to see Sakura in both Matsumae n Hokuto

I was too early for Hokuto for my trip.

noticed a new term in toyota-rent-a-car ~ super collision damage wavier (SCDW) that lower liability to zero. i though CDW usually comes with zero excess so that's not true anymore?
