Dun think can say Potong Pasir residents gave in.

Chiam was MP there for 27 years and had the longest tenure as LOTO.

He went to run for a GRC in 2011 and got his wife to defend Potong Pasir.

Both lost (personally I think Chiam's wife cannot make it lah).

In 2015 Chiam didn't run because of health reasons, and he/ his wife lost Potong Pasir for good.

WP served the hougang residents there for decades liao, their MPs would personally see to every resident who’s there that needs help. There’s no aircon, no office and no bodyguards, just a handful of volunteers and a small area under a HDB block and rain or shine they still show up.

The rally attendees were not just from Hougang, many are from others GRCs. I used to attend when WP hold the rally at the open field, can't even get close to the stage. Even HDB nearby are full with people, saw one guy doing recording, pretty sure he is not from the press.

Outright gerrymandering will be too obvious. PAPaya just have to introduce new HDB BTO flats into opposition stronghold wards with newer demographic to chip away their market share bit by bit.

Politics is a dirty business. It's either you fix people or you get fixed! WP is in a defensive mode for long time. Until their parliament seats increase to a bigger share otherwise pretty hard to deploy wolf warriors to counter PAPaya.
